When will Disneyland and other California theme parks reopen? - OCR/SCNG (Disneyland to open in Late April)

>>Disneyland, Universal and other California theme parks cleared to reopen under revised state guidelines may not return to full operations with rides and attractions until late April or even May because of previously scheduled special events.

California theme parks can reopen on April 1 provided the counties they reside in reach the red/substantial tier 2 risk status of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s updated Blueprint for a Safer Economy.

Many California theme parks have partially reopened with limited-time food festivals and special events that could affect their return to full operations. Most theme parks in the state have not set dates for reopening with rides and attractions.

When California theme parks reopen will be determined by a number of factors — including hiring, training, revenue expectations and ongoing special events.

Some California theme parks could find it more financially feasible to temporarily continue operating in a special event mode rather than abide by the revised amusement park guidelines. Labor is one of the biggest expenses for theme parks and it may make sense to operate without rides or entertainment while attendance capacity limits remain low. It’s expected to take two to four weeks for California theme parks to hire and train new and returning employees.

The parks likely won’t cancel the special events considering the amount of planning involved and the disappointment it would cause fans. Some parks may opt to operate as a theme park on some days and under looser special event guidelines on other days for a limited time. Another option: Blend in rides during the special events as the parks ramp up to full operation.

The most likely option will be to return — with capacity limits — once the events come to an end.<<

>>When are the parks expected to reopen?

Magic Mountain could become the first California theme park to fully reopen on April 1 — with the Valencia park’s drive-thru auto show coming to an end two weeks earlier.

Disneyland could reopen on April 1 after remaining shuttered for more than a year.

Disney California Adventure could return to full operation on April 20 — or even sooner on April 6 when A Touch of Disney is dark. It wouldn’t be surprising if Disney waited until late April or early May to reopen both Anaheim theme parks. Disney moved cautiously last summer and reopened its four Florida parks after its rivals.

Universal Studios Hollywood could reopen on April 5 after the Taste of Universal ends — although the park could return as early as April 1 when the event is dark. Universal moved swiftly last summer to reopen in Florida and is expected to do the same in California.

Knott’s, SeaWorld, Legoland and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom could all reopen on May 3 after their events come to an end. But Discovery Kingdom (April 5), SeaWorld (April 6), Knott’s (April 12) and Legoland (April 12) could all reopen sooner on dark dates.

California’s Great America — which was the first California theme park to announce a reopening date — will likely be the last major park in the state to return on May 22. The Santa Clara park never opened in 2020 and didn’t hold any special events during the pandemic.<<

Did this really need its own thread? Is it just me, or does this very topic have like five individual threads in this forum dedicated to it?

It's weird really. I get that OC Register is desperate for ad revenue, and will continue posting these click bait articles that have almost no new information in them, but then to post the whole article on here and basically rob them of that revenue seems... counter productive?

Unless Darkbeer is aiming to get the OC Register shut down, which wouldn't be all that bad I guess.

>>The Americans most comfortable going to a theme park right now are those unconcerned about COVID-19, people who rarely or never wear masks and Trump voters, according to a new poll.

A new Morning Consult poll found that 65% of people unconcerned about COVID-19, 66% of those who avoid wearing masks and 40% of voters who backed Donald Trump in 2020 feel comfortable going to a theme park.

The poll of 2,200 American adults conducted in late February found that 63% are uncomfortable going to a U.S. theme park compared to 31% who are ready to climb aboard a roller coaster or scream on a thrill ride.

The partisan divide on mask wearing and public opinions about the dangers of COVID-19 championed by Trump split respondents along political lines when it came to their opinions about theme parks in the pandemic era.

The poll found that 71% of people concerned about COVID-19, 64% of those who always or often wear masks and 72% of voters who backed Joe Biden in 2020 feel uncomfortable going to a theme park.

COVID-19 skeptics (46%), anti-maskers (48%) and Trump supporters (23%) were comfortable going to a theme park in the next two weeks compared to 13% of American adults, according to the poll.

COVID-19 believers (37%), mask adherents (34%) and Biden supporters (40%) were not comfortable going to a theme park for six months or more, the poll found.<<

What about those who are vaccinated? That’s why I’m comfortable with it.

I’m a registered Democrat but also a scientist with a brain. Most of us will be vaccinated by 6/1, and those who won’t are largely low-risk.

It's admirable that you tried to claim that there are people who are low-risk. But that's not allowed in California.

Everyone will die of Covid here. It kills everyone, and everyone has grandparents who will also die of it. And if you try to claim otherwise with science and data, someone will post a tearjerker story of an 18 year old girl who died of Covid without going to her Senior Prom, or of a 35 year old father of 4 who died of Covid without walking his baby girl down the aisle at her wedding. And then you'll be sorry!

You are not allowed to deviate from that narrative here in California. If you do, you are espousing Right Wing Conspiracy Theories and are obviously Anti-Science and Anti-Truth.

I'm honestly surprised Sacramento hasn't tried to cut the Internet lines so that people like you from other states can't spread your lies and misinformation here. "Low-risk"; what are you, a Trump voter?!?

They’ll have to cut off the right-wing CDC who said yesterday that vaccinated people can hang out with unvaccinated, low-risk people WITHOUT MASKS! Gasp!
