When the trip falls through...

Today...bad news...the trip we had been planning fell through. Not enough cash. Bummed at the loss of a Christmas trip to disney world I was wondering...what would the people on the boards do to remove the black cloud hovering over them (And I know they would be more creative than just saying, "Start planning the next one")? Help me!!!!!! If you wanna... :-)

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your trip!! That is a bummer.

When something hits me like that, I think about how lucky I am even without the added vacation bonus. I write to/sponsor a few kids in other countries and that helps me keep my priorities in order. For example, I have one whose family is currently unaccounted for because of extreme violence in their area. When I think of them I don't have time to worry about my own problems.

It's not the kind of thing that will cheer you up but definitely helps to remember what is really important in this world.

I do feel for you though. It will be some time before we're able to get back to the World ourselves. :( Until then I'll live vicariously through the people here! lol

Again, very sorry to hear about your lost trip. It's so hard when you've planned and saved for something and it just does not work out. Hopefully you'll get there soon! In the meantime, have fun!

Ugh, yeah that's a toughie.

I can see in your signature there that you're used to a yearly trip, as well.

Hmmm, well, these forums can be a big help for curing the blues. I would go do some Disney shopping, watch some home videos, etc. I don't have anything truly creative for you.

I do thinik what Erika said about her sponsor family is something to think about, though. You're very lucky to get to go to WDW at all, and from the way things sound, you'll be going next year again. I've noticed a lot of people on these forums very RARELY get to go at all. As hard as it is to skip a year, consider yourself fortunate and have a great time next year.

Is is possible to plan a trip for after Christmas? It will be a lot cheaper and far less crowded. If the budget does not extend to staying onsite then stay offsite (as I have always done and I never feel that I've missed out on anything).

If you already had part of the trip saved up but not all, put it towards a trip at a later date. That way you already have part of the cost taken care of and you know you are going again later so you are not as depressed about cancelling this one. Besides, you may can plan bigger for a future trip and planning the trip is half the fun.

Not getting to physically be there is an awful thing but there are many ways to get your Disney "Fix". This forum is the first place to start, and you have already done that. Next is to go on the internet and locate another visitors step by step tour to the resort that you would have stayed in. Usually they will be very detailed and have pictures of every nook. Then go to the disney web site over and over (yes, I'm guilty :o). This way you can get a little closer by reviewing all of the rides. Lastly, the menus to almost every restuarant are listed somewhere on the net. A lot of work, but it feels so very nice...;)

My wife and I just found a way to visit WDW in 2005 rather than 2006, as we had originally planned. We had last gone on our honeymoon in 2002, and I thought that trip had been waaay to short (it was my first trip in 12 years, her first ever).

I don't mean to gloat -- just to let you know that you never know what life will throw you. Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind. Sometimes you just have to sit back and let the ride take you where it does.

I like the previous poster's idea of helping kids and families out there who are not as lucky as we are. Perhaps donate or volunteer with Give Kids the World or the Make a Wish Foundation. Many sick kids experience WDW for their first time through those organizations' efforts.

Sorry about your trip Seira. We had to cancel our trip for April, 2005, so I know how you feel. Looks like we will not get to the World until August, 2005.

Let me tell you what I did to ease the pain. I made an improvement to our next trip to give us something to really look forward to. We were originally staying 7 days at the Poly. Since we are pushing the trip off til August, my kids will be out of school so we can take a longer trip. Now we will be at Disney 10 days, 5 at the Poly and 5 at the BC. So while we are bummed about April, we are really looking forward to the longer trip and our stay at the BC.

So my advice is to try to make a change to your trip to make it better. Add a day or two, upgrade your resort or room type, do a show that you weren't planning on doing, etc. Of course, you still have to figure out how to save for it. Hopefully, the extra time will help you do that. That's what I am counting on.

What a GREAT idea.... :sohappy:

Go to your local Disney Store. We have many guests who either have just returned, are going, or aren't able to go come into the store and purchase things. We try to make it like you are at WDW...even if you can't be there!

These are all great suggestions guys/gals!!:sohappy:
I might have to use them next time I run into this type of setback.

Might I add going to www.live365.com and listening to the multiple WDW stations that play audio from the parks and resorts. This has helped me in times when I really needed my WDW fix.:D

Some of us have to wait two to three years to be able to afford a trip to WDW - be patient

 I'm with you, Hook. Last trip was a long weekend in march of 2003 and it's likely going to be another 2 years at least before we get back. :(
