When Does Ariel's Adventure Open In Walt Disney World?

From what I've read on here, the scheduled opening time frame for BATB and LM is 2012, and originally 2013 was the date Pixie Hollow would've opened - thats probably where you're hearing the 2013 date from. Some people are speculating that LM and BATB could open next year for the 40th anniversiary, but as some of the people in the know are stating, it would be very tough to open by then.

The one at DCA opens in Spring 2011, but the MK version should open in 2012. The current progress gives it a possibility of soft opening in fall 2011.

Al Lutz had one of his big updates on Miceage on Tuesday. It's all about Disneyland rumors and exciting gossip, but he did mention that the interior of the DCA version of Mermaid is pretty much done and they are now testing the Omnimover and ride system. Soft openings begin in April at DCA.

Al Lutz said there's also an updated exhibit about the Mermaid ride coming to DCA's fantastic Blue Sky Cellar at the end of this month. Just like the first version of the Mermaid exhibit there did, I'm sure some of the new details on the interior of the ride will offer up info about what the WDW clone will be like.

When watching the Imagineering video presentation to NASA that was posted/linked here, the Imagineer showed a video of Disney's virtual design system that allowed them to look at the progress of construction projects. As I watched it, there was a "day tracker" in one of the corners that allowed them to get a detailed look at what would be going on at whichever point in construction they wanted to look at. The little Mermaid ride at WDW was the one that they showed on this and the ticker ran beyond 700 days. With that number in mind, I don't see any way that it will be open before 2012 considering the fact that "day 1" of construction was in 2010.

Interesting observation RunnerEd!

Another point of reference is that the DCA foundation construction began in August, 2009 after the Golden Dreams theater was demolished and cleared in July, 2009. That's about the state the WDW version was in during mid summer of 2010 with earth movers pushing dirt around the FLE area.

The DCA version is strongly rumored to be able to host soft openings in April, 2011.

I read titles like this post and think this person must not even read the site! Though I have less than 60 posts myself, I've been reading this site for years... literally.

Oh silly questions!

So by that logic, maybe WDW's soft opening would be about March 2012?

I agree that 2012 is likely, especially given the amount of work that will need to be done around those two new buildings to make them accessible to guests. But keep in mind that since DCA's will be finished first, MK's could move a bit faster as they learn from any problems in Cali. This will be especially true if they use any of the same workers once they finish up at DCA. Just a guess though.

Both TLM and BATB are moving right along at MK. When I was back there the other day, the ballroom in BATB and the Under the Sea circular scene in TLM were clearly visible in the framework. I assume that BATB would be ready to open first, as it's just a restaurant, and doesn't have a ride system or numerous animatronics to install and program.

How far along is the ride, anyhow? I know we can't exactly go poke our heads in there, but inside elements, like the characters , the clammobiles, and some set pieces have to have been doubled from the construction of the clone in DCA. So theoretically (and have mercy on my soul if I'm just hopelessly naive about construction), there should be all that much to do besides installing the ride system the AA's. I say "all that much", but how long does it really need, especially with a huge team.

The part of the construction we have seen so far is the easy part. It's a pretty standard steel building which I am sure construction companies do all the time so it came together pretty quick. Installing the ride system and show elements is much more specialized work so I would assume it would take a lot longer. Looking at the aerial views they only got the roof finished up sometime in mid to late November, so its quite possible that they have not even begun the work on the interior.
