Hey people, just a question, does anyone know if there is wheelchair accesability to Haunted Mansion and Space Mountain? I know I might get some people mad but we are driving up this Friday pretty late and we wont be getting to MK until about 9pm. I want to get a hanging skull for my P/U from PoC. Was hoping since I can't walk much ( stuck a rusty nail half way up my foot) and I'll be in a wheelchair, that I'll be able to get prefered entrance to the only two rides we want to do. I really want to ride these two before I leave cause we wont be going back till next year.:(

Thanks for any info!!!

By law....ALL rides MUST have wheelchair acess....(this was one of the contributing factors to the closing of 20k lagoon)...

Haunted mansion is at the exit....not sure where space mountains are..just follow the signs ;)

Thanks NowInc, I guess I'll be rushing around from ride to ride, wish I can do them all in 2 hours, hehe. If you see someone going about 5 mph in a bright red electric wheelchair, that's me. It really cooks.:king:

Event though they may have access for wheelchairs, you may not be allowed on right away. For PoC which may have no line they will put you on a boat right away. But since Space Mountain May have a line, you may have to wait to ride. That is what they are having wheel chair guests do now, because of all the dishonest people using wheel chairs to skip lines.

WAIT?, how long, do they make you sit in one spot for an hour?:veryconfu , I don't get it!!!, I am not gonna have some ordinary wheelchair, this is a highspeed chair with metallic paint and stuff, damn thing weighs nearly 200lbs. How do they figure out how long you have to wait?

That's the attitude that caused them in some cases to implement a built in spacing out and time of the Special access guest.

Is it fair to the people who waited for several hours to ride, to have to wait, just because you are there, NO. Which is why all new attractions are being designed so they you will wait in the same line along with everyone else.

You have to wait your turn just like everyone else.

For the most part, you will get on, in much less time, than anyone else, including those with Fastpasses.

For Space Mountain, just go the Fatspass line, and follow the signs.

Same with HM, stay to the right, and they come to get you, they usually try and do HM, in groups, so that if they have to STOP the ride to let you and other in wheelchairs on and off the ride, it will be less disruptive, and not mess up the ride for the other several hundred guest riding at the same time.

I know that on Splash Mountain you stay in the line until the steps...then they take you through the exit. Then after that you go to the exit, but they leave part of your party on the line to wait. So when they get to the front of line you get to ride. I think that is how it may work for space also, you may have to wait for everyone else in your group to go through the line then you can ride.

I didn't want to sound like a pian.

Just remember, that you are no more important than any other guest, and they also want to get as much done as possible.

By thje way, what type of passes do you have if they expire.

Since most all Disney tickets have no expiration date.

Not to sound like a doubting Thomas.

But if you are a Seasonal Pass holder and they are about to expire, wouldn't you have already experienced how to handle the park, and have know the wheelchair policies.

Doubting Thomas, I have experienced all these parks to the absolute fullest but I haven't dealt with the electric wheelchair I am taking this time, I am only using it cause last weekend I got a rusty nail stuck half way up my foot and I can't walk too much without unbareable pain. If you needed to know.:o

Okay sorry, I missed than in you first post.

I guess I just expect peopel with Seasonal and Annual passes to know that kind of thing, ssince we are there so often.

This is not the kind of question you normal see from a AP holder.

Well BradleyJ, I did not have a rusty nail stuck in my foot before & had no need to ride a wheelchair through the park. My wife has flat feet and has severe pain in her legs and feet so she walks until she cannot walk anymore (about to cry) and then we get her one of those EVCs but usually we'd park it outside and wait in line. This time around, I can barely resist to stand for 10 minutes. The Dr. also advised me against it. I don't want to cancel this trip due to the before mentioned fact that my Seasonal Passes expire. They are valid for only one year. We cannot re-new the passes until next year for personal reasons. And well I don't think I'm better than anyone else. But if I have to be stuck in a wheelchair & I'll only be at MK for a couple of hours I thought I'd enjoy the perks of being in a wheelchair. It is not my preference to be in a wheelchair. I'd much rather walk. But anyhow, thanks a lot for the info!!! I don't mean to be an inconvenience or pain to anyone :D

Thanks dude!

A little compassion folks, there but by the grace of god go us. This could happen to any of us at any time. No one wants to do Disney in a wheelchair, but when we might have to at some point, so we don't miss the experience altogether, lets just relax and help out our fellow WDW lovers as much as we can. We took our Mom in '97 and she needed the wheelchair as she could not do all the walking required, we did not mind having to wait and did not think about what an advantage it was, just that our Mom was able to enjoy the experience with us. All the CM's at all the attractions and rides she did were terrific. It was the general public that were rude and inconsiderate. Have fun and good luck jcmayid.

Thanks Maureen, we made reservations awhile back, just cause this happened to me, I'm not gonna cancel out, so I do the next best thing. Instead of renting those crappy chairs, I got one here in my hometown of beautiful Miami and it is quite good. It is one of those that disabled people use with the remote on the handrest. I sure wasn't gonna make my wife or my friends push me around, cause I've done it and it sucks. I like to eb as self-suffecient as possible.

By the way Maureen, what did you mean by

"We took our Mom in '97 and she needed the wheelchair as she could not do all the walking required, , we did not mind having to wait and did not think about what an advantage it was, just that our Mom was able to enjoy the experience with us.

Thank you everyone for all the input!!!:)

The way wheelchair access works at Space Mountain is like this. The party (it has to be six or less) with the wheelchair waits in the regular line until they get up to the greeter at the entrance. They are then transferred over to the fastpass line. The bad news for you, is that there are now absolutely no ECVs allowed inside the building at all. There have been too many incidents of them stalling in the queue area and on the speedramp that exits the building. The latest incident involved one of them rolling over a guest's foot and breaking their toe. We will be more than happy to transfer you over to a regular wheelchair at the entrance, however. Just be aware that we are not the only attraction in the parks that do not allow ECVs inside. I'm not sure what all the others are, but I know there are several.

SMCM, even my ECV? I am bringing my own and it would really suck if someone took it and I had to pay for a $4000 wheelchair that was stolen by a bunch of kids thinking they are funny. If I leave it at the entrance, will someone watch over it for me?

Thanks again.

Yes, all ECVs, both park and personal. If you are worried about it being stolen, take your key with you. You park it right beside the greeter, so he/she can kind of keep an eye on it, even though they are not responisble for it.

...I think we're seeing the result of people abusing a well-intentioned system to the point where even legitimate users of wheelchairs are looked upon as line skippers...
