What's your first memory of WDW?

The first (and last) time I visited WDW was in 1976 - we're finally making a return trip there this T'giving.

I was 6 years old and the thing I remember most is what seemed like the LONG walk up to the castle - it seemed like absolutely forever to get there. All I wanted to do was get to that dang castle!

The other memory, though not a good one, that sticks out is that my mother decided that being at Disney was a great time to cut my waist length hair into a bowl cut. She took me into a bar to have a cocktail and the bartender said, "Ma'am, that little boy can't be in here." Major trama for a 6 year old.

Mine had to be my first parade.....It was so out of the movies....
there was me in my mouseketeer (sp?) hat...sitting on the curb on mainstreet....with an ice-cream in one hand and a baloon in the other...... ahhh the good ol' days......

and when I was 4 my mom bought me the seven dwarfs (sp??) they were about 5 inches tall.....and they squirtted water out there mouths...I used to play with them for hours in the resort pool....

I remember going to disney world in '71 and using a ticket to see it's a small world, but the ride wasn't quite finished. In the middle of the ride, the two rooms that you turn around in, to get back to load/ unload areas were basically empty some partitions were up to hide some things (probably mess). I thought that I wasted a ticket to see a ride that wasn't done yet.

The earliest for disneyland was watching flying saucers ride and wanting to go no it but I was not big enough! Then when I was bigger going back to find the gone, my family said I just imagined the ride, but I found it on Yesterland

1977....Being older, I was floored by the amount of detail in the parks and the efficiency by which Disney moves people in an orderly fashion......but I continue to visualize all the character topiary as we rode the monorail...the ticket books (Small World was an E ticket)...and how impressed I was with the cleanliness.
...writing this, I realize that there are probably a hundred things that impressed me and provided the catalyst for becoming an avid Disney fan.

I was 27 the first time I went to WDW. My most vivid memory is getting off the Monorail, going thru the gates and standing on Main St, thinking...I've waited my WHOLE life to get here. I still can't believe how beautiful the Castle was the first time I saw it. It was all I could do not to cry, I was so happy. I know, I'm a sap. :hammer: I can't help it. Walking down Main St. still holds the same magic for me.

Cheers:wave:

My first memory was when I was sitting near the Tommorowland Speed Way in front of some flowers. Not much of a memory, but that's it. I also remember first going on The Wedway.

My first memory was when I was 7 and entering the WDW property for the first time. I remember we drove under a monorail beam just as a monorail was passing over...I was mezmerized because that was the first time I had ever seen a monorail! :)

My first trip to WDW was when I was 10 years old and it was the 25th Anniversary. My dad took me and we stayed at Dixie Landings. My first memory was walking towards Cinderella Castle for the first time and seeing it as a cake. I think that since the castle looked so unique and not normal, that made it memorable for me. When I went back in 2000, the castle looked normal again. Don't get me wrong, Cinderella Castle is beautiful, but I think the cake made a memory for me.:D

Well, it's a mixed bag of memories for me. I went several times in the early 70's to MK when I was 4 and younger. My grandmother was the head of housekeeping at the Sheraton over at Cyprus Gardens, so when people left their unused tickets in the room after checkout, the hotel employees would use them for their own families. We stayed in the hotel for free and went to Disney basically for free. This was in the time before my mother was noticably ill with MS.

The memories that I have of that time are very blurry. I remember the teacups, the Country Bears, the Hall of Presidents, blisters on my heels from new sandals, and _NOT_ getting to meet Mickey Mouse. I was livid about not meeting Mickey. I always wondered why we went to Mickey's house, but never met the mouse himself. After our last trip there when I was 4, my grandmother sent a picture herself and of one of my infant cousins with Mickey Mouse. I was so mad at Charlie I could have spit. lol

Last year at MGM Studios, I pointed out the line to meet Mickey to my partner. She thought I was kidding when I suggested getting in the line, so we didn't go. I had not told her about the heart broken 4 year old that lives still inside me 30 years later. But, there is a cure! I made a PS for the Ice Cream Social at Epcot's Garden Grill on the first day we will spend in the parks on our vacation this year. I have told my partner about my heart broken 4 year old inner child and she is very understanding being that she ran up to and hugged the stuffings out of Tigger at MGM last year herself. LOL

As for the other memories, I went to Epcot back in 1986 when it was spring break of my senior year. I went with my Dad and then step-mother. I liked it alot, but I know now that I missed alot too. My Dad is not much of a planner when it comes to vacations, but I am! I loved MGM Studios last year and look forward to doing it all again! ToT and RnR rule!!!! Mickey

You know, I don't remember seeing, let alone hugging, a single character when I was there in '76.

I do remember swimming in the lake (or lagoon - whatever it is) right outside of the Poly though - I've read somewhere that that's no longer allowed though. (Maybe I'm wrong ... dunno.)

I wonder what my children's rememberances are going to be of Disney ... I'm looking so forward to taking them there.

I can remember standing and looking at the construction of Space Mountain. Also remember getting spun on the tea cups with my older brother and being sick for days afterwards. Have never set foot on that ride from hell since!!

Mine was in like 1980 or so and the only thing I really remember, other then seeing the pics I have, is walking past the 20,000 attraction and it being empty for referb. I recall seeing some of the stuff when I looked over the rocks but it was dry as a bone. Then thinking how cool it is going to be the next time I go and being able to go on it.....which didn't happen. I went like just after it was closed for its extended referb:(

I remember a moment during my last visit in 1985. I was but a slight 7 years old. It was a rainy day in the Magic Kingdom. My dad was busy dashing us in and out of shops keeping us dry. After several blurs of overly priced souvenirs and patrons dropping cash by the droves we finally arrived at our destination. Space Mountain stood towering over my rain-soaked, poncho-hooded head. The line for the attraction flowed across the Tomorrowland pavilion like the streams of water pouring from roof of the matallic monolith. Intimidated by the overpowering crowd, we hesitantly approached the lemming-esque death march. After what seemed like an eternity, our time for sheer pleasure arose. It all seems as though I had awoken from a strange dream when it ended. I try to remember it this day, but no such luck should arrive on my doorstep. My next journey in 40 days will awaken this buried memory impatiently waiting to be exposed.
