What's up with the crowds?

Why the increase in numbers the past 2 weeks? Wait times were 5-15 min. at the beginning of Oct. and now some are up to over an hour! I thought Oct. was the "off season"...what gives?

I heard its because Disney is trying to "rebound" from the hurricane season so they dropped prices. Whether or not that's true, it sounds right.

Well, I don't know about all of the prices, but bottled sodas in the park were only $2.00!

Last Monday was Columbus day (long weekend), and for many schools, it was "fall break" (whole week off)
I have heard that Columbus Day week has become more and more crowed each year.

The city gets more and more transient (tourist) demand that week each year.....Veteran's Day is becoming another busy week, as I believe New Jersey is out of school for the majority of the week.

October really has never been a "low" attendance month. It has almost always been a moderate month. But given F & W, Halloween, fall breaks, big conventions, and the Hurricaine Heroes deal, the crowds are going to be big for the rest of the year!! Not a good sign for those of us traveling in Dec!

Am I understanding the thoughts here?

Are we unhappy that the #'s are up? That wait times are up? What gives? Don't we all ( i know i do) want the numbers to continue to increase? That's good for everyone, including cms wanting pay increases.

Well, I don't think any of us want to see the crowds SO low that CM's are losing hours or taking pay cuts. However, when we plan our vacations so that we don't have to wait an hour or more per attraction and struggle with shoulder to shoulder crowds, the increase in attendance is a bit frustrating.

You also have to factor in that the park hours are shorter because of the expected smaller crowds. If the crowds are substantially larger than usual that means that you cannot experience as much of the park as you should have been able to do.

There has not been as many large (citywide) conventions this year. ADA (American Dental Association) was in the first week, and next week, well, pretty much every hotel off property (not including the crappy hotels) is sold out on the 26th, but it has really only been an average October.

Exactly my point rosebud's mom. If the crowds are smaller, the park hours are shorter. Hence, less bang for your vacation buck. I think we're agreeing here. I know that people don't always like crowds, but I look at it differently.
When I read comments about how people had to wait 30min/hr for rides, I think GREAT!!! That means Disney is doing something right, and that business is good.

The food and wine festival is becoming a very large draw as well. Beware EPCOT haters.LOL

F&W has been a great draw for a while now, which is why it was extended an additional 2 weeks.

I have been to Epcot 5 or 6 times this month (since the start of the festival) and some nights it almost feels as busy as the holiday time periods.....way busier than the summer months, and far busier than the Flower and Garden festival.

I really think Epcot is at its best during the festival time periods.

I was checking out the hours for Oct/Nov and looks like toward the end of the month hours get extended, which is a good thing.

I'm glad to see that. Beats the parks closing at 6/7.
