What's this "Customer Relationship Magic" software I've heard about?

A "friend of a friend" told me Disney is installing some sort of software that will track repeat visitors to its parks. Over time, supposedly, Disney will be able to track how many times you've visited, how much money you've spent, and so on. Presumably, the more you spend the more benefits you accrue. The name is something like "Customer Relationship Magic."

Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? Is it something the guests will have to do, or is it all behind-the-scenes?

Thanks,

Len

This has been in the works for a long time. I remember hearing things about this around a year ago. They were supposedly going to track things like repeat visitors to resorts, and give them special discounts/benefits for your loyalty. This was then meant to cross over into every area of the Disney brand. I havent heard anything about it recently though, so perhaps its still in development or gone the way of many other good ideas (on hold).

It is supposed to work in conjunction with your Disney Club card... which you can purchase for $40...

Gee... I have become a little more cynical towards all this Disney stuff since my CM days have passed...

This morning, I was on the reservation system trying to get pricing for a trip in December, and I noticed they added a few new questions, like what family members will be joining you, and if you had stayed at that resort before. Maybe this is in conjuction with this?

Isn't that a homing device?

I'm in the Disney Club as well...Why don't they just create a big mailing list?...or limit the value/tracking to the Disney Club?

Questions

They did ask a lot of questions last week when I called to check on rates. How many times I had been, who would be coming, zip code etc.

The Disney Club thing makes sense, since they could use your membership number to identify you. Otherwise you'd just be "The Smiths from Washington, DC," which doesn't work well enough to track people. But my guess is that only a small fraction of people who visit actually belong to the DC, and Disney would want to track everyone. Unless they assign you some sort of unique number (and you keep that unique number on subsequent visits), how do they know you're you?

Thanks for the info on the new reservation questions. Asking about family members might be part of the Magic program, as would asking if you've stayed at that resort.

The last time I called CRO (in May), the CM I'd spoken to was able to see the last six or so visits I'd made. So at least some of this system seems to be in place and working.

I think the interactive pins Disney is selling are also a prototype to something with this system. I recall reading somewhere (here?) that eventually the pins will have some personal information on them, including who you are and what attractions you've visited that day.

Say, for example, you're on Pooh early in the morning and it goes off-line with you on it. If you ride Country Bears later in the day, one of the bears might turn to you and say something like "Dave, if this show breaks down, we guarantee we're more entertaining than that _other_ bear."

Anyone else know anything?
