What's the purpose . . . .?

Please, I do not intend to offend anyone, but what is the purpose of the quotes, etc. that some posters have on every reply or thread? Is it some secret code or subliminal message? I find them distracting to say the least. Sometimes it takes me a minute or so to figure out the response wading thru all the stuff (5-letter word) that is tacked on.

Do you mean "quotes" like the one above this posting? If so, they just help people keep track about what message in a thread you are replying to.

It is the author's own personal signature like yours "Don't take any wooden nickels" They don't necessarily mean something to everyone, just to people who get the joke, or have seen the movie. Its just for fun, no subliminal messeges what so ever. And welcome to the forum boards.
