What's the Deal with Lip Synching

Could someone explain to me how "artists" can get away with lip synching? I can't remember the last time I've seen a musican actually sing live while on television. The halftime show during the superbowl just reiterated this!

In fact, did you all know that the person singing the national anthem has not done a live rendition for like the past 15 years! That's right Beyonce wasn't singing live!:D

The artists use to lip synch on American Bandstand all the time, nearly a half century ago. It was so noticeable. I suppose it guarantees them an error free performance! I'm sure it goes way back especially if the performance is being recorded.

But, live performances? I saw the Beatles in 65 at Shea Stadium...Chicago, Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, Frank Sinatra, Sammi Davis, etc...all live performances....and none of these guys lip-synched. More importantly, none of them grabbed their priceless crotch during the performance....THAT'S what's new!:hurl:

You know Tramp...that's just it. The best concerts I've ever seen in my life didn't have one special effect....because the music carried the emotion from song to song. The set made sense and didn't have to be tied together by technology or a vague storyline or lines of dancers or special effects.

IMHO - Football stadiums don't have the best acoustics. When someone tries to sing, their voice bounces all over the place, which can make it a bit confusing. Remember when Rosanne tried to sing the national anthem?

BTW - If the Whitney Houston rendition of the anthem was lip-synched, then that was the best synch job I've ever seen. To this day it still gives me goose bumps.

Houston's rendition WAS lip-synched! Kinda ruins the magic, doesn't it?

Lip Syncing in statiums is almost a necessary...FEEDBACK!!!

As for live TV thingies....actually...not as many as you think do lipsync. They mess up a lot. Those who DO lipsync sorta have to (either heavy chroeography or other circumstances prevent them from doing a "naturally good" performance).

Im against it..of course..but..i understand why some choose to do it.

Agreed also with the comments above. the BEST shows ive seen were minus special effects and heavy dancing etc (yeah...cuz ya know..i go to TONS of shows where there are dancers on stage)...i actually dont mind when a band messes up on stage..at least it shows they are human and make mistakes..and that it IS in fact live (god knows i screw up a lot when on stage). I have little respect for pre-recorded performances :)

Best live non-lip synched show I have ever been to was Ted Nugent at the Cincinnati Gardens. No special effects, just rocking music.

I was at the '91 SuperBowl when Whitney sang the anthem. What a moment in history. (Boy has she gone down some other road since then). I have read that she didn't actually lipsynch. Suppossedly teh stadium crowd heard her sing live and ABC dubbed in the recorded version for teh TV audience. So it looked real because she was really singing her heart out. As mentioned above, with a worldwide audience, no one wants to take a chance that something will go wrong.

Hey, Britney Spears is no better!:animwink: and she continues to sell thousands of albums!

Won't get an arguement out of me on that one. Christina is a better singer and Jessica is better looking.

Maiden Rocks. Steve Harris is the best Bass player of ALL TIME.

Any idea if Eddie and the boys are playing in the Cincinnati area during their tour?
