What's the big deal about Port Orleans?

A few other things POR/POFQ have going for them:

- Marina with boat rentals, just like the Deluxe resorts (this is big for me, as we love to take out the little motor boats)
- Evening movies shown on the grounds (do other resorts have that? I don't know.)
- Campfires with free marshmallows (I doubt we'll be there for that at all because of the time, but for some it might be a draw)
-In addition to Yee-Haw Bob at POR, there's live music at Scat Cat's at POFQ (don't know if the other mods have live music in the lounge or not.)

They are all over property. I think they might even be doing them at the value resorts.

One of the reasons the wife and I stay at PORS is as follows:

1) We just love the southern Theme and Mansion type buildings.
2) Lot's to do resort wise here, i.e. arcade, pools, boats, bikes, cane pole fishing, fishing excursions, entertainmnet like Yee Haw Bob, shopping, food court and resteraunt, bar out by the pool.
3) Fun easy access on the Boat Taxi to DTD. Love the Sassagoula taxi rides
4) The grounds are beautiful and well layed out and groomed
5) Layed back and quiet
6) Transportation to all areas in Disney never been an issue.

I have stayed at the Wilderness Lodge, All Star Movies and Sports, The Boardwalk, Coranado Springs and Carribean Beach. Our Favorite themed all around is the Wilderness Lodge. This is a treat for us and we cannot always afford to stay there. Our Favorite hotel next is PORS, the Resort fits us to a tee and makes us happy. We always know what to expect most part when staying there and always have had very good care and found the staff and food outstanding. Nice food court and love Boat wrights.

I never had a bad stay at any of the resorts I mentioned. Some of the theming was not for us. But that's how you find out if you like it or not by staying there. It's after all these years Dixie Landing now PORS is what makes us happy and gets us in a very peacful relaxed mode. That is what is great about WDW. There is sure be be at least one theme or resort that make you happy and comfortable being in. It's okay not liking or understanding why the love for this or that resort. What it really is about is at the end of the day that you are happy where you are staying. I love the Corranado but feel it is way to big and at times felt a little around bussiness instead of being on vacation. I find a lot of good in the Coranado and if it was the only place left to stay in the Moderates I would be more than happy to be there. I think the pool is the coolest and fun area to swim in IMHO. It all comes down to what you like and want to stay.

I'd rather stay in most Deluxes than POR. I'd only pick POR over a deluxe if I were alone and/or money was an issue (or if it was that or the Contemporary, which I really do not like.)

POR totally has the best food court of the mods. I think the AB section is kind of peaceful, sorta. Lots of foliage. If you feel like walking, it's a great place to walk.

It's just pleasant.

But none of the mods are really a ton better than the others. Other than theme, there aren't really big differences, I don't think.

Everybody seems to stay there. I mean EVERYBODY! I'm a bit confused as to why, though. Am I missing something? What makes this resort so desirable over a deluxe resort, or another moderate resort?
One of the reasons it may seem "everyone" stays there is that it's actually two separate resorts (Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside) with a combined total of more than 3,000 rooms. That's roughly the same as the other two Moderate resorts combined. So if all Moderate rooms are sold out, roughly half of the guests staying in a Moderate room are staying in a Port Orleans room.

Most deluxes are better than PO, but the price is much better at PO. One reason that POR has a lot of people staying there is because it's huge. It has more rooms than any other moderates, if I remember correctly. Other than that, it's a nice resort and has some nice amenities. The boat transportation to DTD is an extra travel option that other moderates don't have.

I can't afford Deluxe and I'm tired of the Values so that is why I'm staying at the mods next time.

I choose POR for the same reason I go out of my way to visit TSI every trip. Its just a very relaxing and peaceful experience. The Alligator Bayou is beautiful to walk around and at night the sounds of the crickets and frogs instead of screaming kids made it seem we were miles away. Its room quality is much better than Caribbean Beach and a lot of people do not like Coronado because of its conventioneer crowd. I have yet to stay at CSR so I can't comment on that.

I grew up going to Dixie Landings so nostalgia is also a major factor.

I see. So, it's like a Beach/Yacht club situation?
