September, January after New Years week until President's Week in mid-February, and early December are good times to avoid crowds in general. The worst are the two weeks around Christmas and the two weeks around Easter.

Depending on your view of heat, humdity, and thunderstorms, summer can be pretty wretched, but the parks are open later.

However, May has Flower & Garden festival and October/November has Food & Wine Festival at Epcot, and from mid-November to New Years week, you get the full Christmas displays. So, it depends on what you want to do or see.

Whenever you go, if you can devote 6-7 days and practice some wise touring (getting to parks early, knowing which days are best for which parks), then you can see or do most of what you want and still have time to relax by the pool or chill at the resort.

^ thats the best advice you can get.

ive heard a lot of postive things about Sept-Nov. Not real heavy crowds, and the weather is normally in the 70's. My familys planning a trip for early, Nov, so id say its a good time. Normally we go the spring, but it gets very hot and the crowds are very heavy.so i would avoid mid-march through early may for spring break dates

Isn't there a website that lists the crowd levels for every day of the year? The name of the website escapes me right now.

We've gone the week before Thanksgiving week 2 different times and it was WONDERFUL. The crowds are low - we went on ToT 4 times in a row in about 20 minutes. They were decorated for Christmas (we love Christmas). Temps are comfortable - low 80's - with hardly any humidity. No rain - I don't think it rained one day either time we went.

Actually, on second thought, this week stinks. No one should ever go this week! (I don't want to be giving away one of the best secrets and have it get crowded ;) - Think anyone will buy that? :lookaroun )

Our favorite time is during the first part of December before schools let out for the Holidays. Low crowds, nice weather, and Christmas decorations. If we could, that is when we would go every year.

We went for the very first time in...

early February 2007. We visited 4 parks over 4 days, hitting Early EMH for 3 of them and late EMH for the fourth. Until about 11am at every park, we walked right onto every ride we wanted. After that, with a wise use of Fastpasses, we never had more than a 20 minute wait for anything, usually less. We went on nearly every ride in the parks, saw nearly every 3D type attraction, got numerous character autographs, saw parades in 3 of the parks, and saw Wishes and Illumination. All that with excited 5 and 7 year olds in tow, and a sit-down dinner every night. Granted we didn't sleep much, but with only 4 days in Disney World, you make the most of it! It was truly magical for all of us. We will definitely go back that time of year on our next visit. Plus, it's value season so the hotel was cheap, and we got a great package deal that included park hopper upgrade! :p

I was thinking about booking a trip the weekend of President's Day until the wednesday afterwards, an extended weekend I guess. What are the crowds like then? I've really only gone during the summer, so are crowds less or more, or equal to summer crowds?

The best time to go to any of the parks is when I am there. I'm a lot of fun. I don't eat too much. I don't yell and will often move aside to give small children and pretty women a better view of parades.

There's a TON of new things since '92! It's going to be a whole new experience for you.
By WDW I'm assuming you mean the Magic Kingdom. The four parks in Walt Disney World are the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios (will be Disney's Hollywood Studios starting in January) and Disney's Animal Kingdom - a whole new park for you, that opened in '98!
Check out www.wdwmagic.com and www.allears.net for tons of info on all the different attractions. I'd also suggest getting a guide book. They're extremely helpful. Even some of us here that think we know everything still get a guide book every trip.
I don't know what the water thingie could be... Splash Mountain maybe? That opened in '92.

I would also suggest late January - early February.

Great advice, we always go the end of the week before through the week of Thanksgiving and love it. It's our special "our family" holiday, without all the extended family and everything that comes with that....

I agree that if you can have 6-7 days, plan early, know what you want to do, and take breaks during the days to rest you CAN do most everything you want to.

Also the perk to the holiday season visit is that it is decorated for Christmas and the parks are open later generally everyday than at other times of year, as well as that they really try to have very few closings and rehabs to accomodate the crowds. There are always going to be crowds but waiting in line when the weather is cooler is alot better than waiting in the heat when it is much more crowded. We have never had problems with weather or crowds on our trips.

5 trips during Thanksgiving down ('95, '00, '02, '04, '05) and one coming up...11/16-11/24!
