My contract for my cell phone has just expired this month and I'm thinking about going with a different company this time around. What do you all reccomend and who should I stay far away from? Any help would be truly appreciated! :D

It depends on several factors. You have not provided enough information for anyone to give you good advice. Cell phone quality varies by location and service options. There is no one "best" service for all needs.

Best cell phone company? It's a trick question. They are all equally horrible. But whatever you do, do not get Nextel. Nextel sucks.

I get good signal strength here from Cellular South. I like the plan my kids are on - unlimited incoming and outgoing within this state and other local areas (as far east as the Florida panhandle) and unlimited text messaging for about $60 per month including all taxes. My plan is all right - but there are better plans with companies whose signal strength is not as good.

Like Woody said, all companies have their downsides.

I have Verizon and Cingular...and they're both pretty good. I use my Verizon phone the most and the signal's usually pretty good. Drops calls every once in a while but so does the Cingular.

In the six months I have had Cingular, I haven't had a dropped call. Most of my friends have Cingular and I have so many rollover minutes, I can still call the ones who don't have it and not have to worry about it. And, I think someone told me that unlimited text messaging is just $10 extra a month.

We've tried just about every company . . . except Cingular
Sprint is the worse.
Verizon the best . . . no dropped calls, no surprises on the bills.
We combine our land line service with our cell on one bill.
Very happy with Verizon.

I have Cingular and haven't had any major problems. My company phone is Verizon and I think I get a better signal with my Cingular phone.

I use Verizon. It gets great signal strength in most spots. It does get great reception at Disney. My phone was able to receive calls in middle of rides, when my group was trying to meet up. (And no, I did not answer my phone in the ride). I have not had a problem with dropped calls.

I also hope you had it on vibrate.

It depends on your location... Verizon is awesome here and Cingular is horrible.
You're right. Cellular coverage is still very regional. The main thing to look for today is how rapidly a particular company is adding new towers. Also, you've got to be careful about companies such as Virgin Mobile and TracFone. They both lease space on other providers networks. They end up being low man on the totem pole when call volume is high.

Several areas around here have voted to not allow any more cell towers to be built. Cingular has to lease in some of these areas and the call drop rate is high. Verizon had basically built out their network prior to the rulings.
