We stayed in Kissimmee last time we went to Orlando and found it brilliant with loads of shopping and close enough to Disney and Universal. We are actually staying in Kissimmee again next year. The only thing is you will definitly need a car though. We were there for two and a half weeks and had no trouble at all.

Any more questions please ask from one brit to another have a good time.

For the most part Kissimmee is awesome. There are cheap souvenier shops galore, some of the finest restaurants around, and quality hotels. We've gone there many times and have always liked the Howard Johnson Maingate East. The location is close to WDW, Universal, Seaworld, and many more parks. It is basically a tourist city and for the most part safe. There are some crappy hotels farther down the road though. Every WDW vacation, we've had a good stay in Kiss. (there are many car rental places and hotels let you rent. try to avoid payless car rental though, you'd be glad you did. :)

Firstly let me start by saying that I've never stayed in Kissimee. I know people who have and they've enjoyed it.

Just bear in mind that Kissimee is predominently for tourists and there will be some unscrupulous locals preying on the vulnerability of those carefree visitors. Treat it like a first time visit to any other place in the world - be on your guard and if something seems too good to be true then it probably is.

Very touristy. Roads are always jammed in the morning with people going to work and people going to the parks, so you'll want to leave your hotel early. Hopefully, you checked to see which hotels are part of the Disney Good Neighbor program. These hotels have to meet Disney standards to be able to participate. You don't have to book them through Disney, but at least you know which are the best of the group.

Its amazing whats is classed as Kissimmee by some travel companies. Ive only stayed at villas and they were fine, had their own security and a decent communal area. However after getting stuck miles away Ive stayed on site ever since, though if you go to named resorts you could avoid that risk.

we tend to visit orlando every year in September and ever since we have been going we have always stayed in kissimmee, never once have we had a problem and have always enjoyed it totally.
We have stayed both in villas and in hotels along the 192, we spend many nights on the 192 playing crazy golf, at the various restaurants and at old town. It is much nicer that the noisy hussle and bussle of international drive which is recommended so much to us folks travelling from the UK.

I would recommend the Best Western Lakeside Kissimmee hotel, it is in a great location on the 192 and is reasonably priced too.

Enjoy your trip, we are travelling September 25th this year and can't wait:wave:

We've just booked the Quality Inn Maingatw West.

The description said it is 2 miles from WDW, which is perfect for us.

Anyone been to this place, what's it like?

Good to see your still alive. :animwink:
Not stayed in that hotel but at the HoJo, further along. Its not a bad area, easy to get to Disney using the road toward the AK lodge.

I seem to remember a one or two good eateries.

I would check the price difference between Kissimme and the Value resorts on property. If the difference is small, I would do anything possibible to be on property!!
