What Would Your Impression Of WDW Be....

If you toured it like most of you guys do Universal? By that I mean, what if you had never been to WDW before and you were staying at Universal and you caught a cab and paid $90 for a one day ticket to DHS (because your DS9 is REALLY into Star Wars)? Or DAK? Or even Epcot?
Obviously, the MK is impressive, but what would you guys think if you paid full price, stayed off site, and spent one day at ANY if the "not MK" parks.

I would probably never go back to WDW if DHS was my first impression. I don't hide my dislike for that park on this board at all. LOL. I love MK, AK and Epcot.

Thats an interesting question/perspective. It's weird to go from WDW to Uni, where they have more ad's, more mainstream places to eat and RIDES rides RIDES galore. Big roller coaster type rides. When we went there, I walked in very skeptical. I didn't like the ads, or how long it took to get to the actual park. I felt "out of place". And then when we got to the actual park....was overwhelmed with how many rides there were, how well kept they were and how clean it was.

So the thought of going to DHS after Uni, for the first time. I'd think it was pretty lame I think!

For me, I had no choice on my first trip to WDW. The company my dad worked for had a convention in Orlando and they buy tickets for the families for entertainment. They happened to select WDW. It was 1985, so only MK at Epcot were there. Not sure what kind of impression I would have if I had went to Universal first and then years late came to Disney.
I've been to Universal twice but nothing compares to Disney. I am going back to Universal in December and I know I will have a great time but there is something special about WDW.

It all depends on what time of the season you go. An experience at WDW at xmas time is different (and way better) than Universal. Disney has a standard that other theme parks try to replicate, but come up short in my opinion.

To answer the question, it all depends on the person. DHS tried to market to thrill-seekers with ToT, RnR, and Star Tours, but ultimately, I think if a guest was staying offsite at Universal and had planned a day at a park in WDW, it wouldn't be any other park other than MK.

I'd say they were one step above (possibly below) a Six Flags, had rude staff, were filthy places and had nothing but thrill rides. ;)

I do know a guy who went to WDW because he happened to be in Orlando. He'd often heard of Space and wanted to ride it, so he went to the MK, rode Space and left. His exact, verbatim response to my question of what he thought of the MK...

"I don't know. Seemed like a low-rent amusement park to me."

He isn't a fan of Disney or Uni. Has no ax to grind. It was his honest opinion.

That's like watching the Super Bowl and only seeing the first quarter of the game. What would your impression be? Mine would be..........I wish I could see all of it. What else am I missing?

First off, it would be impossible to not go to MK if you could only attend one park.

But even if I stay off site and and went to DHS, I would feel cheated. Cheated because I stayed at Universal and not Disney. DHS is completely immersive while I would be too concerned with pointing out the feeling of Six Flags I feel at Universal. I also would make it a point never to go to WDW while I was staying at Universal because the perks of staying at Universal, for now, the front of the line perk, is just too valuable to waste. With it, you can knock out both Universal parks in a day easy. Basically, you stay one night at Universal and spend the rest of your vacation at Disney World, which is the norm for 99% of the general public anyway.

Jimmy Thick- One night at Universal, you really don't need more than that. Seriously.

Seriously, though, I think that MK and IoA are the only two theme parks that can blow away the casual visitor on the first day. UO, DAK, and Epcot require a different mindset than the average visitor provides, and DHS is just a turd.

Good question. I have always done the two parks since I was 12 so have never done Universal after WDW, they were always simultaneous. I don't know if I'm more biased being British so I'm just amazed by anything American but I never feel like there's such a great divide as others seem to. I enjoy both and not even in such different ways.

Up until my twenties I preferred Universal and MGM (old school) but that was just because I was mad on films. Now I'm older I prefer MK and Epcot (can't get AK). I don't think it's so much Uni vs Disney for me. Just what kind of attractions I enjoy more.

Yes Disney has that "magic" feeling but I defy any 80's child not to get that exact same feeling on E.T.

So I guess I can't answer your question but it's certainly food for thought :)
