What would you take the Monorail or the ferry?

I have been to the World a lot of times and I know how hard it is to get out of the MK after wishes. This December :xmas: my mother in law will be going with us and she will be in a wheel chair. (She can walk and stand but not for long both knees have been replaced). So my question is would it be easer on the ferry or the monorail? I have never done the ferry after wishes and don’t know if it’s as crowded as the monorail.<O:p</O:p
Thanks for the tips

Perhaps you could sit and have a drink and watch the crowds pour down Main Street for half an hour or so, then leave when it is a little less crowded?

Actually a very good idea. Trying to get out of there when totally healthy is a challenge. Take your time wander down Main Street, get a snack & window shop. Then head on out. I like to take the boats at night as I find it very relaxing.

I would suggest taking the boat. We get a wheelchair through the hotel every time we go to WDW for my grandmother. As someone who has pushed a wheelchair up the ramp to the monorail and held onto it on the way down, I would avoid taking the monorail.

Stay and watch the kiss goodnight at the castle. This happens about 20 minuets after the park closes. This will give the crowds time to dissipate. After that take the ferry. You can get on board without any special attention and there is plenty of room.

Forget the wheelchair, get her an ECV. Easier on you, easier on her. You don't have to push, and gives her more freedom to window shop if she wants. And she will feel better because she won't have to rely on you to get her around.:D

I agree with the posters who say wait it out for a while inside the park. Avoid the crush, take in the surroundings, and then leave in a much calmer manner. I'd also go for the ferry boat in your circumstances. Have a great trip! :)

gotta be careful about these things though. my cousins grandma who came with us on the trip, momentarily forgot which was the break and which was the accelerator and ran over my mothers ankle and dragged her a couple feet. she was hurt really bad. cast members came over and started helping her. while they are convienent, they can be painful!

What is the goodnight kiss in front of the castle?

It is simply some special lighting on the castle and a goodnight message. Nothing to spectacular but it is a nice somewhat unknown Disney event.

Boat lines -- esp for handicap and strollers can last 90 - 120 minutes after fireworks. If you can push up the ramps for the monarail -- DO. It will save much frustration and exhaustion.

If you don't mind taking the monorail, then you might want to take the resort monorail, the lines are always less intense and it is only the second stop on the track to the TTC. You do not have to be a resort guest to ride that monorail. As a matter of fact, I have never had to wait for another monorail when going on this track because I have always walked right on.

While I am sure someone could get mad about it Disney apparently does not see it as much of a problem or they would request resort ID's before boarding, which they can do at there discretion. In many cases it is quicker to get to the TTC via the resort monorail vs. the express even if the lines are equal.

We usually take the ferry because it tends to be faster (at least to us)...but be aware the ferry does make my DW :hurl:......So take some hydrochloride tablets if you've got motion sickness problems.

The ferry is definitely faster, on level ground and there are no huge hills like the monorail to be pushing the wheelchair and running the risk of it rolling backwards over you. It takes about 5 minutes to cross the lake on the ferry once it is loaded and while I get motion sickness very badly, I have never gotten sick on the ferry, there are no waves or rough water on the lake.
