What Would You Do?

My DD and I will be taking my DGS (3.5 years) and DGD (2 years) to MK for two days this summer. We are trying to decide between staying at WL in two rooms (one with bunks) but connecting or stay at one of the monorail resorts in one room. We have a list of pros and cons but still can't decide.

We stayed in the Contemporary in October and it was AMAZING! Walking to MK was such a time saver, hopping on the monorail to the Poly and GF was so quick, as was the transfer to Epcot. Loved Contempo cafe and Chef Mickey. Pool wasn't all that themed but my boys loved it-it was a pool and that's all they cared about. We stayed in the garden wing which was right by the pool and 3 minutes to the main building and far less money than the main building. WL looks fab too though.

I have to say my heart is with WL. It can be amazing but with the construction the amazement may be difficult. So you may wish to hold off on WL until construction is complete. However the room rates are cheaper than normal due to the construction and you get some pretty neat free pins when you check in because of staying during construction. Also since half the resort is closed off you get half the crowds so there could be some benefits in going right now. I must also add the boat ride to MK is super quick and enjoyable! The pool area is quite lovely especially with the new kids area.

I would probably do Contemp for the convenience, especially if you are doing just MK. You can walk over very easily, and monorail rides are always fun! They have a Character Dining experience and you can watch the fireworks from the resort.

Of course, WL has a boat to MK and lots of space to explore in any downtime. I would still do Contemp though.

I agree with everyone else, if it's an option, I'd go for the Contemporary.

My family usually stays at Fort Wilderness and we love being a quick boat ride from MK. For our Spring 2017 trip, we're looking at the Contemporary just so we can walk to MK and have easier monorail access....

I would do the Contemporary. It is so nice to be within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom! Plus, you can't depend on getting connecting rooms, they are by request and subject to availability. So I think the Contemporary wins out.

I thank you all for your quick replies. They were helpful, especially @ekutchey. My DD and I discussed the suggestions and decided to go with WL. With two little ones, having less people around seems like a good idea. Plus, we adjusted our dates by one week, and we were able to get an awesome deal (using our pin code) on a Deluxe Suite-Club Level. This will make it easy to feed the little ones and refresh ourselves. Thanks for being so helpful.

Enjoy!! You can also take a boat over to Fort Wilderness and enjoy a campfire with Smores, bring your own or purchase kits for a small price with Chip and Dale. This is a popular event but usually very enjoyable and requires no advance purchase or reservations.
