What would work?

Trying to figure out how to handle a stay where we would need one room to start off, and then two to finish. The problem being I would like the rooms to be close together, connecting would be perfect.

Would it make more sense to switch resorts? Would it benefit if we go to check in, and ask for 2 together? Would it be hard to start off with one room and then expect the resort to be able to drop the second room near the first a few days later?

You will not anything really different as they will be 2 separate reservations no matter what you do. You will just need to add the request for connecting rooms when you make the reservation.

The only downside is honoring that request is going to be hard as there will need to be a connecting room that frees up in the middle of your stay. Because of this I would also add the request for adjoining rooms as well as close to each other if connecting then adjoining is not possible.

So so you think it would easier if we did a split stay? Then, when we need 2 rooms, we can check in for them at the same time and put in our request for connecting or adjoining rooms.

The logistics of what you are describing might be difficult for a resort to achieve. Split stay could work for you. Or you could request the buildings that are furthest from everything (the buildings that no one ever requests).

Do you really need to be near each other at your resort? It doesn't feel like it would be worth the hassle. Just meet them in the main hall.

The person in the other room will be my 76 year old dad so yeah, I want him to be near the rest of us. And I would like for us to be near a bus stop and the main buildings if at all possible. I know I am asking for a lot. Just trying to figure out what would give us the best shot at getting it all

Maybe we start off in one room, and then move to POFQ and 2 rooms for when dad is with us.

A split stay becomes a problem if you are getting the dining plan. It also might require you to move rooms and there is still no way to guarantee a connecting room.

Having taken dozens of trips with other families, (3 or 4 rooms was pretty common) I can tel you that while having connecting or adjoining rooms is nice, it is far from essential.

Spilt stay or paying up to premium pricing is all I can think of. For example, you could get a larger Villa with enough beds for your whole family (either pay cash or try to rent points if you stay is far enough out).

I just think it will be difficult for Disney to do what you need done. It would be different if every started their stay at the same time and then some leave early. Having a room and trying to reserve a room near you starting a few days after is not impossible but I think that a lot of things could work against you.

I wish you the best though! Good luck.

Anything else? Free room? lol... Good luck.

It is possible I could have dad fly down with all of us, and then leave early. I was thinking the opposite was better for a couple of reasons. One, we would all be a bit tired when he arrives and thus be moving a bit slower. Which would be good for him. Two, we would be moving from being in one room to splitting up into two--nephew would take a bed in the room with dad. Though maybe we could go from the 2 rooms into a DVC studio. That would give us something fun to look forward to.

It's going to be much easier on you if you don't have to move during your trip, but like the others said, it's going to be hard to get the connecting one for the latter part of your trip. In addition to putting any request on your reservation, it's also worth a call directly to your resort a few days before you arrive to have the request noted on your reservation. Still won't guarantee it, but it can't hurt.

I'm not sure if I will have my dad fly down for the beginning or end of the trip. I'm thinking either way we will change resorts. I can have my nephew listed on the room with him, so we can check in for both rooms at the same time, and ask they at least be near each other. So for the part with dad we will stay at POFQ. The other part, I'm still struggling with. So many choices!
