What WDW Has Done Right In Last 10 Years?

In my judgment, it would be a small list, and every positive would have some caveats attached.
  • Soarin' is pleasant enough, but cloning the California version complete with a California film was the height of laziness. We can hope to see a new film sometime in our lifetimes, I guess. Still not a real E-ticket, IMHO.
  • Test Track 2.0 is a clear aesthetic improvement over the first version, which was one of the ugliest WDW rides not located in Dino-Rama. Still basically an empty experience and a MAJOR downgrade from World of Motion.
  • New Fantasyland phase 1 was a huge letdown. Some of the theming is nice, but nowhere near what Universal Creative has achieved in recent years. The best thing about it was the restaurant, and that's a problem--an expansion of that size and scope in which the best feature is anything other than a major ride or attraction is a failure.
  • SDMT (New Fantasyland phase 2) is very, very good. I think it's easily the best thing to be added to the Magic Kingdom since Splash Mountain. But we had to lose both Snow White and 20k to get it.
  • Magic Bands as such are fine. I like the convenience. If they had been the sum total of the MM+ initiative, and the price tag had been much, much smaller, the whole thing would have been a positive. That was not the case, though, as we all know.

Jack Sparrow in Pirates is a good example of adding a movie element with class...not too much.

I have to disagree with this. Here's what it sounds like to me:

Original POTC script
No fear have ye of evil curses, says you. Aye? Properly warned ye be, says I.

Now proceed at your own risk. These be the last friendly words you'll hear. Ye may not survive to pass this way again....

Oh, shiver me soul. It's dead wore out, I be. Am I too fast these lot footed wenches be for the likes of an old swag-bellied pirate such as I? Now, where be that fascinatin' little old treasure? Ay? Heave to, maties! Say, have you set your eyes on a bewitchin' maiden in your travels? Oh, she be a lively lassie she were! Oh, I tell you true, it's sore I be to hoist me colors on the likes of that shy little wench. Favor, keep a weather eye open maties. I be willing to share, I be!

Current POTC script
blah blah blah Captain Jack Sparrow blah blah Jack Sparrow rabble rabble Captain Jack Sparrow blah blah blah blah Captain Jack Sparrow rabble rabble Jack Sparrow.... etc.

In addition to what's been mentioned, I'd like to add that I think the Art of Animation resort is a wonderful addition. For a "value" resort, it's very nice and, though I've mentioned this repeatedly, I think their food court is one of the best QS spots in all of WDW.

SIGH....Can't say I disagree with your premise, but I suppose I've pointed this out due to the recent destruction of Maelstrom and closures of classics like Snow White and ruining the seas with Nemo. I guess I'm just happy to not have a classic totally ruined or taken away.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
Fantasyland Expansion
Closing Sounds Dangerous
Closing Backlot Tour
Closing Maelstrom (hate me. It was outdated and it ran its course.)
Star Tours II
Enchanted Tiki Room revival
Test Track upgrade.. Meh.. 50/50
Country Bear Jamboree upgrade (shortened show for shortened attention spans, and audio fixed)
Captain EO's tribute... It can leave now though.
Major upgraded Dumbo ride
Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor
Hitch-hiking ghosts upgrade in HM
Soarin'
Sum of all Thrills
The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow (i thought it was awesome for that small amount of space used)
Toy Story Mania
re-locating Festival of the Lion King (rather than just closing it with the land like Pocahontas)
Expedition Everest
Finding Nemo - The Musical/an AC theater

I forgot to add the fireworks at HS for Star Wars weekends that were incredible, I think better then Wishes (but it could be that it was set to Star Wars). Also the Frozen fireworks weren't bad either, Id like to see fireworks return to HS on a regular basis.

You are not the only one thinks Test Track 2.0 was complete failure and Super lazy. I think the ride is more complicated now that it was in terms and I blame the wait times on the design of the vehicle. The design part to me was a failure based on the fact the highest overall ratings I seen a design when I was there actually was monster truck type design. The problem with that is Chevrolet doesn't sell monster trucks to normal customers and that shows designs isn't realistic to what Chevrolet actually is selling.

The rest of the ride is a tron rip off and I recalled the attraction redo being around 70 to 100 million dollars and that didn't give me good hope for the Frozen attraction replacing Maelstrom.
I think it was a complete failure as well.... I liked the old one 100% more.

I love the new Fantasyland Expansion. I think it was a great addition to MK. I'm also kind of excited to check out the new Haunted Mansion gift shop on my trip at the end of the month and I am excited for the Avatar area in AK. I think the theming could add a whole new dimension if done well.

The Haunted Mansion refurb - the one prior to the one that installed that lame queue and new Hitchhiking Ghosts - was superb IMO. It fixed all of the audio problems, spiffed up the place and plussed it with that Escher staircase scene - which probably puzzles guests more than scares them, but that's a good thing IMO. It has a sort of creepy Alice In Wonderland vibe.

Jack Sparrow's addition to Pirates didn't hurt it, thank goodness. The figure is a good likeness, is effective and its design doesn't clash with the designs of the rest of the pirates, which is something you can't say about the new Bride in Mansion (the aforementioned refurb's only real flaw).

I like that sitting areas have been added to Pinocchio's Village Haus and Casey's. MUCH needed.

Be Our Guest is a charming restaurant with pretty good food (what I've had of it). And it has a truly magical atmosphere. But it needs an AA Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts at the very least, plus a new articulate Beast costume, to fully live up to its potential.

Storytime with Belle is very nice for what it is. The magic mirror effect is astounding, as is Madame Wardrobe. And it IS fun to see the pleasure that parents and kids derive from the play-acting. I'd prefer a full dark ride, but still, it's a nice attraction and adds a great deal to NF.

The Memento Mori shop is a long-needed addition. But I still hate that electric blue paint on its outside (it reminds me of THAT ONE HOUSE in your typical Crackerbox Palace neighborhood that's painted electric blue - a type of urban phenomena akin to the One Shoe On The Side Of The Road. What do those manifestations truly mean? We'll likely never know...)

Oh, happy day. It is nice to read mostly positive posts about WDW rather than the usual doom, gloom and misery posted in many of the other threads. Instead of wondering why on earth we would want to go back there , this thread shows why we want to go back. It "ain't" perfect, but it's still the best game in town.

New Fantasyland, Soarin', Exhibition Everest, and Toy Story Midway Mania are obvious. A couple of my personal favorites are Star Tours and Spaceship Earth.
