What truly falls under the heading of an "Imagineer"?

I can't remember when I wanted to be an Imagineer... oh well... I really like to draw, so that will play a big role in what job I want. I think Archetectural Designer would be cool. I also like making models, so that might come in handy as well. *shrug* Who knows. Yes, maybe we will all meet in the Imagineering Department.

Can you work for Imagineering at Florida, or do you have to go to California? Also, what kind of computer-related jobs are at WDI?

Yes, you can work at either California or Florida. Each theme park has it's own section of Imagineers. Most of the capital projects are based from California and the outlying sections deal mainly with sustaining and improving the parks.

As for computer related jobs, there are the usual suspects: IT, IS, controls engineering, and application programming. I know quite a few of them.

NOOO NOT THE NORTHEAST! lol. I actually designed an entire Disneyland type thing for up there. It was called Disney Northeast. I still have all the plans somewhere. I started one for the MidWest and didn't get near as far as I did with the Northeast.

Thanks for the info. Now my plan of getting a Cisco certification and computer degree and stuff will pay off, if I combine my love for computers and working Walt Disney Imagineering... I already have my future planned out and I'm in the 8th grade (Unlike all you worthless 9th graders :p )

That leads me to my next question... Where would you apply to be an Imagineer...?

The first place to look is at http://corporate.disney.go.com/careers/index.html. This will get you what they are currently looking for.
You can also find some insights at http://www.imagineering.org. The author has quoted some pretty good magazine articles in his page.

As with most jobs, it pays to know the right people...WDI is one of the most competive environments out there and they have a history of hiring for projects and then laying off as soon as the project is done. The good thing is that they tend to re-hire the same people once another round of funding is approved.
