What to wear in Disney World

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and just wanted some advice. We come to Disney world on Saturday from the UK for ten days. What kinds of clothes will we need? Sun cream?

Will it still be warm enough to go to the water parks?

Thanks in advance x

The ten day forecast says you should expect mid 80's F. (So about 28 C) I wear travel/hiking/outdoors casual knits for this sort of weather in Florida. Cotton spandex blends with short sleeves and skirts or dresses with running shoes. My husband wears athletic sweat wicking polo shirts and cotton cargo shorts with running shoes.

It will be warm, but not unbearable hot.

I would figure the sunny days with the highest temps will be okay for the pools or water parks.

I can't answer your question about water parks (I've never been), but October at WDW is a great time to visit, weather-wise. At least that's been my experience. The most important clothing item you'll need is GOOD SHOES. Not flipflops or sandals or any of that stuff. Good shoes with good support and good soles. You will also need a hat with a decently wide brim for shade. One that you can stow away when going on rides or sitting down to watch shows (you WILL take it off before the show begins. Right?) And a sweater for night-time - it can get a little chilly sometimes. Now as for rain gear - some like to bring ponchos or buy them at WDW - but not me. Ponchos are drippy things that are a pain to take off after a shower and even worse to stow away. My advice: get a small collapsible umbrella that you can put away inside a backpack or clip onto a belt loop. Much easier to deal with and less messy. Just don't let it get caught on things as you walk. Have fun!

We usually go for 3 weeks this time of year and come from the UK too. Others have answered really but being British any day in the water parks should be warm enough for you coming from our climate. There's days in October when the locals think it's too chilly for water parks, I'm there those days sweating and thinking how warm it is :)

Seriously most days in October shorts and t-shirts should suffice for days out unless you really feel the cold. A very few times in October I've worn jeans and a hoodie but this has been very rare and mainly because of the chilly wind rather than the cold temperature itself if that makes sense? It is handy to have a top of some sort in the car though for if you visit restaurants etc, as sometimes the A/C in them can be a bit too chilly so having a top is always a good idea.

Thanks everyone. Any last minute tips for travelling in October? We have only ever been during the Christmas holidays before so not sure what to expect!

An option that I used instead of a poncho or umbrella on my last trip was a waterproof jacket. Just my two cents.
Wear comfortable walking shoes (I cannot stress how important this is- do not wear flip flops for walking around the park, or shoes that have not been broken in), but bring sandals or flip flops to wear on water rides (Splash Mountain, Kali River Rapids, possibly Pirates).
Sunglasses are also a must.

One thing I have learned in all my trips to WDW, have something for every weather. Stuff you can easily take off when its hot, a few things for when it gets chilly and waterproofs of some sort. Don't forget the sun tan lotion.

Just take all of your most inappropriate clothes and you'll fit in just fine.

Kidding (sort of) but we always try to travel as light as possible and sometimes take a change of socks, which can be rejuvenating in the afternoon.

Another thought if you're big on clothing souvenirs. I never bring sweatshirts into the parks, as soon the kids and I get cold at night, we duck into the gift shop and pick out new ones.

What temps are you accustomed to? We visit WDW annually for 10 days sometime between January and March, and although most Floridians/CMs are in scarves and boots, we end up swimming, lounging by the pool, and tanning.

I fear we would melt there during the summer.

Last year, late October was still summer-like, with temps in the mid and high 90's. I wore minimal clothing, light and breathable. It was almost too hot to enjoy the pool. While that's luckily not on the current forecast, be aware it's still possible.

Another year it was mid 70's and raining, so that's possible too. In that type of weather I don't like to be too covered up either, as you can get sort of sticky feeling. A light jacket should suffice.

In my opinion, it does not get chilly at night in the fall the same way it does in the spring. I still bring some long pants and a sweater, but they are seldom needed. Not scare you about the odd weather though, short sleeved shirt/tank top/dress and shorts/skirt are usually fine. Hopefully we will just be getting the normal beautiful weather (I'll be there too) in the comfortable 80's! And yes, perfect pool temps!

Loose-fitting shorts and t-shirts (or tank-tops) and comfortable sneakers or sandals. Try to avoid black or dark colors as it attracts the heat.

Warm weather. Mostly T-shirts, knit short sleeved shirts (golf shirts), shorts, in case there is a cool evening 1 pair of jeans, 1 pair of khakis, 1 long sleeved shirt or sweater, trainers (running shoes). I also echo the people who said don't bring new shoes, but ones that have been broken in. My rookie mistake a number of years ago was bringing a brand new pair of running shoes.

You can wear a one piece swimsuit as a top and cut off jean shorts with holes in them.

Just make sure your BMI is above 35 and you'll fit right in.

Just us - We would suggest what NOT to wear....

Ladies - keep the high heels for dinner. Yes, we HAVE seen several folks trying to navigate parks in High Heels :). Your choice, but it won't be pleasant.

Heavy boots.... stylish. And very hot.

Full suits.... yes, you will be mistaken for WDW Management. And you will be miserable :).

T shirts with "Humans: not just for Breakfast anymore...." You get the idea.....

Shorts that appear to have been attacked by a multitude of Moths, leaving critical areas "Gordon Ramsey'ed" (It's RAW!!!!).

All just an opinion.... I'm not right, no one else is wrong...... :).

Pack clothes and shoes that are comfortable because you will be wearing them most of the day. No one will care what you wear out to dinner. Layers work best. It may be warm during the day and cool at night. We always pack enough clothes for 1/2 of our trip and then do laundry at the hotel. Its our early night where we bring in a pizza or go swimming.
