okay guys ... im starting to plan my race schedule for 2014 , and there is a race I want to try In Dec.
its a local marathon , and since it local I thought I would give it a try , just to see what I could do.. not looking at time.. and what not .. , and since I will have ran 3 halfs this year.. , with all that said .
now comes the delima . , see the same week is the galaxy of light s 5k , I always run .. just bc its a fun Christmas event every year. , so im trying to decide what to do.. but I cant take off work for 2 races.. bc its the holidays and I cant use vaction , so what would you guys do?

btw - the Marathon is th first sat. in dec .
and the 5k is the first Monday in dec.

If they are both local I don't see a problem. Do em both. Do the 5k as a hey, I'm here, gonna go slightly faster than a walk. Since that's at 6:30 and the full is on a Saturday I don't see you having to use vacation for those. Maybe I'm missing the problem here?

I'm also missing the problem. I'm in retail so I don't get weekends off, but I would request the day off for the marathon & just work around the 5k (even if it meant bringing a box of baby wipes to work).

If I had a problem, I guess my priority would be the marathon. Personally not a fan of 5ks because it takes me longer to get ready for them than to run them

If you're worried about a 5K one week then a marathon the next, well, that's no worry. If you have a good plan you're already putting in those miles. There are Dopey people on here running four days in a row.

If you have to take time off and you're trying to choose, that's going to have to be your call. But I personally won't run marathons unless it's a big event like Disney or Rock and Roll. The locals just don't have the resources and if I'm going to try 26.2 there better be some fun involved.

Eh, in support of supporting your local, I'd say better chance of hitting a PR than at one of the biggies. Just need to find one thats big enough to have pacers, but not so large that you bump elbows for 3 miles out of the start. And not to mention you can do it for a fraction of the cost of the big guys.

Well, my only two attempts at a marathon were so bad I'm more worried about adequate medical staff. :D

Haha. True, but if it makes you feel any better, one I did in VT, the medical staff was on par with the ones at WDW. And they were slammed with everyone stumbling in from the 90 degree temps.
