What the heck? Where are the proofreaders?...

Please! Forgive me if this has been discussed before!

Please! Forgive me if I put this in the wrong forum...

But PLEASE! Tell me Disney has hired some proofreaders!

I have searched for this and found not one single post that told (er-, wrote) about what I am about to tell (er- write to) you.

So here goes:

[rant]

Anybody have the Disney Store Best Friends Calendar 2004?

I just flipped the page from July to August just now and was, simply put, shocked.

The August calendar page features the characters from The Lion King: Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa.

The calendar page has a big picture of these three characters and their names underneath, almost semi-transparent behind the actual date boxes.

But what is very fascinating is that the names of these three characters have been BUTCHERED!

Simba is correct, and reads "Simba," but...

you know Timon, the meerkat? Well, you know how the editors at the "Best Friends Calendar" spell his name?

"Timone."

No joking. They add an incorrect "e" to the end of Timon's name.

And that's not the end of it!

You know Pumbaa? Well... apparently Pumbaa's name is not "Pumbaa" at all, but rather "Pumba" with only one "a" at the end.

I'm getting too old for this. I think Disney (and/or whatever company was contracted to produce the calendar) needs to SERIOUSLY consider hiring a full-time proofreader/editor/spellchecker (and if they already have one... well my oh my, he or she needs to be fired because s/he ISN'T doing his or her job!).

I have noticed SO many typographical errors in Disney communications (for instance, I just got the shareholder invitation to submit photos for the Disneyland mega-photo collages... and, yup, you guessed it... on the release form, the writer misused the contraction "it's" when s/he really wanted to use the word "its" as a possessive).

It's not even funny anymore.

To Eisner and his cronies: Please hire an editor/spellchecker so these embarrassing typographical errors are not released to the public in huge doses. It's really bothering me. It's irksome and embarrassing. Please get an editor on the staff. This is truly appalling.

What about the month that featured "The Fox and the Hound: Tod and Cooper?"
ROFL! I didn't even notice that! I got the calendar for Christmas, so I didn't use the October-December pages.

But isn't that pathetic? They can't even spell the names of their own characters.

I doubt Disney had much to do with the printing. My suspicion is either they sold the licence to another publisher to use, or if it is a Disney publication then they are finding out what happens when you contract out to the cheapest source.

Kind of like the interesting spelling you get in audio kit instruction manuals that have been put together by someone in a Far East country whose only experience with the English language is an online translator

Of course, I too suppose that Disney contracted out the license to create this calendar, but for goodness sakes! It was sold at the Disney store! I would like to think that the company that printed it and/or Disney proofread and inspect the products they sell in the Disney stores...

It's very intolerable, regardless of what company created the calendar. It has the huge, red Disney logotype emblazoned on it, and there are certain standards to be met.

We're not talking about a cheap dollar-store product here. This is one of the world's largest media conglomerates. And they can't get their licensees in order, and their products edited. That's still rather pathetic...

Uh, make sure that you don't apply for the job! :)

Sorry, couldn't resist.

You are right; something that is professionally done should NEVER reach the consumer wrong like that.

lol... I apologize. I was in a rush, as you know, to get the word out...

But they should never be in such a rush to get the product out, you know... ;)

The point of which I tried to make clear with the inclusion of that grammatical error in my original post is that it is permissible for certain entities to make such errors - namely, citizens who post on Internet message boards. However, it is not permissible in any circumstance for a multi-billion-dollar-mega-media-entertainment-stock-listed-world-renowned company like Disney (or Disney's licensees) to make such errors on PRODUCTS and SIGNAGE and TERMS OF USE and WAIVERS and OTHER COMMUNICATIONS.

Eh? :)

Delayed response maybe, but that has to be one of the funniest things I've read all week!
