What the heck is going on with 1-407-W-DISNEY today??

Only if you booked your original reservation online. If you booked through a TA or called Disney, you need to call to modify an existing reservation.

Right. The only thing you can do online is cancel or update the guests.

You cant change to free dining (I tried) and when the modify feature works at all is spotty at best

I thought I read somewhere...maybe on yahoo. that Disney just fired some CM's in their IT department to replace them with 'other nationalities' whom they had just trained! Coincidence!? Just some food for thought!

But you can't change dates, which is required for most people to be able to make Free Dining work for thwm.

Yes. You can. IF you were lucky enough to get online first thing early in the morning when the promo opened, before the system crashed. A few lucky, lucky people were able to modify online to add Free Dining to existing reservations. And only if there were rooms available for their dates at their resort. The planets had to be in perfect alignment for it to work online, but it was possible for some. The rest of us had to do it the hard way. I was on hold for 2 hours, 10 minutes.
