Out of all your trips to WDW, what is the one thing that stands out most in your mind?

I used to go almost every year as a kid and my mom and I have been back 3 times since 2001. The 1 thing that really stands out in my mind is how we were welcomed on our second trip down in 2003. We always stay at Disney's Wilderness Lodge and the person that checked us in welcomed us home to Disney's Wilderness Lodge. The reason this stands out in my mind is that seconds after we entered through the lobby doors, I mentioned to my mother that I felt like I was home and then to have them welcome us home to the Lodge just really made that trip special.

hmm trip that stands out most in my mind. Well suppose there are two.

The first was my second visit in... 1999 I believe, but was only for a day. My grandmother and I were able to see the Lord of the Dance special that was going on in Epcot and it was just our favorite thing in the world.

But I think currently my trip to WDW was last November. When I got to meet up with my sister for the first time, and we just went through Magic Kingdom with her mum until I had to leave. It made our first meeting that much better because we are both Disney fanatics, and had written a story together taking place at Disney, just sort of brought everything full circle.

Getting my leg stuck in a closing monrail door when I was a kid. I may be the inspiration behind the ever famous "Please stand clear of the doors....".
This was back in either 72 or 74. They had a different style monorail then. I was sitting next to the door when it closed and pinched a chunk of my skin in the door. It took 15 miniutes for a CM to find someone who could open the doors to release my leg. It swelled, was really red, but no real damage done. Sure it hurt but I think I was more scared than anything. I still have vivid memories of this. Think about it every time I get on the monorail... I still love that place!!

Let me add the *fondest* memory is getting engaged to my wonderful wife at the Poly looking over at a beautifully lit castle... ahhh now that's what it's all about... :sohappy:

Probably when I was there with my girlfriend may of 2004.....
and at Animal Kingdom, in a smoking area (behind a store, near the Dino-rama area) we saw a snake in the "wild".

So....when we went to the "petting zoo area" there was a snake lady. We were obviously curious as to the snake we saw. Apparently it was a "black racer".
Poisonious. Kinda stuck in my mind....just cuz it was kinda neat.

I have to say my engagement as well during Wishes last year will always stand out the most in my mind. :)

I also will never forget the first time I walked into the AKL on our stay there last November. The lobby with the huge Christmas tree and all the decorations took my breath away.

After closing at MK on my birthday a couple of years back, my mom decided to buy one of the pictures that they take of you on Main Street. There was a huge line, and it took almost an hour to get up to the counter. As soon as we placed the order, their printers went off-line, and they would be able to print another picture every 5 minutes or so. After about an hour, they came back on-line in a mad rush, and the one CM working the "catching" station was completely swamped. Then all of a sudden, this one lady hopped behind the counter, started helping put the pictures in the frames, and yelling out order numbers to get the people through. Hers was one of the first pix through, but she stayed until the whole crowd was cleared away. Now that's the Disney spirit.

When I think of Disney World the one thing that stands out in my mind is the frist time I saw the castle. I know it sounds sappie, but it really brought a tear to my eye. I saw it in pictures all the time, but I didn't know it would blow me away. IT's sooo PRETTY!!!

we've got 2 black racers living in our backyard. they stick their heads up when we walk out the back doors. but they're not poisonous. :)

the first time we were there we ate at 'Ohana and watched the colors on the castle change. cool.

Going to the Hall of Presidents and proving to my GF that Bush is a robot.

LOL I love it :)

hehe that reminds me. I have a memory for there too. I managed to drag my dingbat friend out from California and to WDW. and as a compromise to getting me on roller coasters, I dragged her to the Hall of Prsidents. Favorite memory there for sure, she was so upset about being there and was complaining going "oh great I get to see a bunch of dead presidents. Who gives a care. ect ect." (she's the most unpatriotic person I know) and there was this guy there, a WWII veteran who turned and just glared at her. She looked back at me and said... "can we please move, I think the old dude is going to kill me..."

By the time the show actually started, every person in the place was giving her the evil eye and I was going, I don't know her.....

It was GREAT! LOL :goodnevil

When we had a private photo session complete with security guards roping off the City Hall staircase for my family and Snow White to recreate a picture that was taken 30 years ago. And it was on New Years Day 2003 so the park was packed, and we were treated like VIPs with Snow. It was the pinnicle of magic!!

It was a few weeks before Splash Mountain opened, so i was just a kid. It was only running for employees while they worked the bugs out (one told me from the log passing under the bridge that it was his 7th time in a row). It loomed above frontierland so mysteriously, never having ridden the Disneyland version, i was completely intrigued by what was hidden inside that mountain facade, only able to see a logboat emerge and disapear again at regular intervals. The dead tree on top just added an air of menace to it. The whole mountain just radiated Magic.

When we rode the WDW Railroad and it went INSIDE the mountain, i had no idea that we'd get a chance to see anything. But right before the Frontierland stop, i started to hear music and the riverboat scene from the finale of the attraction emerged on the right. My jaw dropped, there was a life-size riverboat covered in animatronics! (ok, so i thought it was life-sized) If the rest of Splash Mountain was half this cool, it would be one heck of a ride. I was so frustrated that i'd have to wait a whole year to actually experience it.

In Feb of 2003, My girlfriend at the time, two other friends and I came down for the Daytona 500. We spent a day at MK. It was the first time for my girlfriend and my two friends. It was kind of nice to share all of my childhood memories with them (those that hadn't already been removed and/or replaced). Two quotes from my friends that day really stick out in my mind...

"So, this is where all the [expletive removed] goes down."
-Walking down Main Street, referring to the Christmas Day parade.

And my favorite:

"There sure are a lot of kids crying for the happiest place on Earth."

The moment that really stands out for me is from a slightly different perspective. I was a CM working in the Parking Lot at the Disney-MGM Studios back in 1997.

The normal routine in the evenings was that the big fireworks show "Sorcery in the Sky" would end (This is pre Fantasmic! times) and the entire park would clear out all at once. This meant that all the guests headed out to the parking trams, boats and busses to head home for the night.

Well, one summer night it started raining heavily just as the SitS was ending and everyone was getting soaked while waiting in line for the parking trams. Most parking lot managers usually are out at this time to deal with problems and to help keep the trams moving.

On this particular night, one manager in particular really stood out. He was dressed really nice (as all CM Managers usually are) with dress clothes, dress leather shoes and a nice tie. He wanted to help out so much that he grabbed another CM and went to bring up another tram to help with the crowds while they were getting wet.

Instead of sitting inside in his office doing paperwork or something... Instead of driving the tram where he would have stayed nice and dry... He decided to stand on the back and do the speil. (This would be the least desireable location because you get soaked and it gets really cold with the wind whipping...)

Anyway, he did this knowing he would totally ruin his nice clothes because he wanted to help out the crowd and do what he could to make the end of their day as nice as possible.

Talk about having the right attitude!!!

I haven't worked down in WDW since the end of that summer of 1997, but I still consider that Manger to be a good friend of mine and try to keep in regular contact to this day!!
