DHS What should they do with Animation Courtyard?

FYI... DL has two boats for ROA. The paddlewheel is used both for guests to ride, and also when Fantasmic runs on select nights. The pirate ship is different, and was not running when we were there a few weeks ago. DL also still has the canoes and the transport to TSI (which was renamed on many of the signs).
Yep and they are the only boats on property. Meanwhile WDW has the TTC boats, boats to MK resorts, boats between Contemporary and wilderness, World showcase boat, boat between Epcot, dhs and the resorts and the disney springs to DS resorts.

I don't count the transportation boats as an attraction.... Next thing you know they will start counting the busses as a new ride...lol

The scale of the Disneyland Monorail is completely different... it is not the transportation system we have here at WDW... it is scaled as an attraction....and goes directly into Tomorrowland... On the outside they appear the same, but when you actually ride the DL Monorail you understand...

not sure why you are implying I have not ridden the DL monorail... I used to live in SoCal and have ridden it many times, including when it used to have a stop at the DL hotel.

Since it appears you have ridden both, I'm sure you are aware that the DL monorail can be used as transportation to get quickly from DLR to Downtown Disney for dining, and then back into the park. We actually did that on our most recent DLR visit three weeks ago.

It was not a personal remark on whether or not you had ridden the DL monorail, I was saying the scale of the Disneyland Monorail makes it feel more like an attraction...almost like a toy in comparison to the WDW monorail which is more like public transportation....and yes, We would usually take the monorail into the park... The Disneyland monorail, due to it's scale is also more stylized... I really like it....

The thing is, we’ve seen that Disney does have enough faith in these smaller franchises to invest in them outside of merch. Rockin is being rethemed to Muppets. Country Bears got an update rather than simply being replaced with a marketable IP. Figment is simply biding his time
Or is it that Disney is trying to appease some of the fans? I think Muppets went to RnRC because they needed a replacement for Aerosmith and they knew Muppets fans would be unhappy with the Monsters Inc plans. Could they have saved Country Bears because they knew they were getting rid of the Shooting Gallery and RoA?

I don’t really think any of those things are connected by anything other than wanting to do new things with Frontierland. A goal that from what I understand has taken many different forms over the last 5 years. First came Tiana’s with a rumored retheme of pecos bills to Tiana’s palace then came the the beyond big thunder plans in 2022 which were still being workshopped and while they were deciding what to do with that they decided to quickly repurpose an old idea as a stopgap (country bear musical jamboree) and then the cars thing was decided upon as the big thing that would truly change Frontierland forever (for better or for worse)

Even if it is just appeasing fans, Disney recognizes that these properties are popular with fans. If Disney didn’t see value in the Muppets they would have weathered the storm closing MV3D without retheming an E-Ticket. Rockin probably would have been rethemed to Powerline or something.

As for Country Bears, I don’t think that comes from appeasing fans of Splash, ROA, or shooting gallery because most of them are indifferent at best to the changes. Nobody who is upset about IP replacing things like ROA and Splash is happy about the Country Bears singing Disney songs. This change was done because there was a mandate from WDW to make the show more relevant and WDI decided that the bears needed to stay. If Disney didn’t think there was value in keeping the bears, they would have gone out the door with Tom Sawyer and Br’er Rabbit.

I personally think Hollywood Studios is the only WDW park that should have lands themed around a singular IP. Personally I want either Metroville (incredibles), Sanfransokyo (Big Hero 6), Wakanda (black panther), Cornona (tangled), or even something 20th century related like apes or aliens. But what I think they'll actually build: Zootopia and/or an Avengers Campus
After seeing what EU did with Paris, I’d *HATE* to see Avengers Campus at WDW. New York, Wakanda, Asgard, Latveria or bust for WDW Marvel.

Here is what I would do... (Not realistic)

- Put Great Movie ride back with disney movies (great for disney to market new movies as well)
- Keep Animation Courtyard
* New Mermaid show opens 5/27/25
* Launch Bay building (not the whole animation building) becomes a walkthrough history of disney animation with Walt Disney office exibit. Disney Future animation building facade with fantasia hat. May also include animation drawing experience.
* Disney Presents moves to the disney Jr. building (possibly connected to animation building) with a show including the new walt disney animatronic.
* Add a water tower like the one at the burbank studio lot.
*Change the arch to the burbank lot arch.

- The Walt Disney Presents buillding gets a new Pixar Studio facade and some kind of generalized pixar experience
*This explains why toy story land exists: you walk through a pixar backlot area to get there with pixar movie posters before transitioning to a neighborhood facade. Rename toy story land andy's playground or andy's backyard.

- Between the current launch bay and mermaid there will be a path to a new land also accesible from the sunset ranch market gate.
* This land will be named "Mickey's toon studio" it will be like the new toon town but more studio oriented.
* Runnaway railway moves into this land with the "el capitoon" facade
* Mickey's house becomes mickey's movie barn
* Minnie's house becomes minnie's style salon from tokyo
* Goofy's sound studio with silly sound affects
* Donalds duck pond stays
* Daisy's cafe can stay and maybe add a bakery
* instead of the roger rabit part of toon town, toon studio could have a modern little kids IP like Bluey.
* Disney Jr show or the new show coming to DCA goes back here someplace.

Again not realistic..

Animation Courtyard and everything west of Sunset Boulevard needs to be completely raized... That should be the hub for an entire land based on Disney Animation/Toon Town...Leave Rock N Roller Coaster with a theme appropriate overlay, then add an all new set of attractions...a couple E attractions, multiple C attractions in an engaging and vibrant 1940s era ToonTown...From the new Animation Hub, everything to the Southwest should be related to Pixar Studios leading into Toy Storyland.... Eveything else should be an homage to Disney animation past and present. It would just make the park layout make so much more sense.... Expand the area around the Star Cruiser hotel to build new office and support campus at that location, and out of the park footprint....Monstropolis should be built where One Mans Dream and Mermaid show are so that all Disney aimation related attractions would inhabit that quadrant of the park.... It would be a monumental and truly worthwhile expansion of the original park.
The east side of the park would be Disney live action films inspired attractions....

Launch bay and the animation building should become tour of the animation studio where the characters come to life like the 100 years film. Or the great disney movie ride

@lentesta are you still expecting a big announcement the week EPIC opens? If so, any fun hints you can give us to speculate wildly on?

I think it’s all up in the air right now. There’s a not-zero chance that we’ll get some project pauses on tomorrow’s earnings call. Depends on how Disney’s seeing the rest of FY2025 shaping up, and tariffs and international visitors, etc.

Universal is supposedly seeing a bit of bounce back from Canadians.
