What Restaurants and How Do You Choose.

We base ours on looking at the menus and reading the reviews. Oh and also by checking out the pics here on the food photo of the day thread ;)

We actually don't really have any places that are MUST DO's so us though we try to hit Ohana every trip be it for breakfast or dinner. We also try and do Crystal Palace (next trip though we are going with more family so we're going to do CRT) and Cali Grill (it will be closed in May for refurb) We usually try and get in a couple new places (May we tried Sanaa and Sci Fi Dine In and in September we tried Narcoossee's and Coral Reef) I guess it just depends what parks we will be at and what they have for options. I would love to try every restaurant in WDW but there are some that just don't appeal to me (ex: Yak and Yeti, Turf Club, Restaurant Marakesh)

Silly me.Ive just seen your dates of your four WDW trips.

Hehe. No I've never stayed on site. We don't drive, so it's easier for us just to stay on I Drive and get buses everywhere. We don't just go to Florida for Disney, although it's my favourite part of Florida. Plus it can be much more expensive on site but I'm not going to get into all that again.

Anyway, I'm on all panic stations now; tomorrow is 180 days until the first day of our trip! And I still have NO IDEA where to go. I suppose as long as I book something seen as I've never been to anywhere, it doesn't really matter.
I've never planned a Disney trip with such precision as this time. I'm using Undercover Tourist and everything, so I'm trying to put together a rough itinerary of where we are going on what day. I suppose seen as we are getting Park Hoppers anyway, it doesn't really matter where I book, but I would still rather not spend an hour trying to get from one park to another.
I also have no idea where many of these Restaurants are. I know Be Our Guest (which hubby wants to try, seen as it has beer... tut!), and Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Royal Table, but the rest, I don't know. Ohana often comes up in Trip Reports a lot, can I take a guess that it's in the Poly? Oh my word, I'm completely and utterly snowed under by all this.
Me and my hubster will eat anything. We love all things american, ribs, steak etc, but are willing to try anything. And I think we're only looking for Dinner time meals. I would be grudge paying some of the insane prices for food at breakfast and lunch times. I would love to do a Character Meal.

Does anyone have a guide on the restaurants and what serves what or am I just best to look on the Disney website?

I'm so embarrased to be such a complete noob when it comes to restaurants!

Yea for you! If hubby wants to eat at be our guest be on the phone at exactly 7am eastern Not 7:01 I'm not kidding!!!!! 180 days exactly in fact call disney dining today to make sure you counted days correctly. I called at 7am exactly a few weeks ago and got 3rd choice for time also do this for Cindy's. I am trying the plaza restauant fot the first time hear it's a good and inexpensive place to eat and cool off. Also don't forget counter servivce least expensive of all most have very good food especially at EPCOT. Pleast get the unofficial guide to disney it solved so many issues when it had been many years between trips. Hope this helps

Is that the app they advertised on the Magical Express? Because I tried to download it and it said it wasn't available in my country.

I think I've decided I would like to try:
Be Our Guest , if we can get in. If not I'll be more than happy just to go in and have a look around at lunch time.
Ohana looks interesting. I know a lot of people rave about it, so I would like to try it.
Sci Fi Dine in looks like a lot of fun.
San Angel Inn, Mexico Epcot, simply because we love Mexican food!
Via Napoli, again because I've seen some great reviews and we like Italian.

Now it's just a matter of booking! Typical the day we want to go to Be Our guest means I have to book Christmas Day. Oh well. :) What do you think of my choices? And have I missed anywhere important? Unfortunately I just can't justify the cost of Cinderella's Royal Table, however much fun it looks.

All great choices. We love O'Hana. It is fun and yummy. The view is also superb. San Angel has a nice atmosphere and the food is good. It is a bit dark so if you have small kiddies it might not be best. Eating at CRT is quite fun but it is pricey. I haven't eaten there in a long time but when I did it was great. I have heard that to get into BOG you will need to call the minute they open. I will def be doing that in February!! Have fun!!;)

We've also added Liberty Tree Tavern to the list as my parents want to go, but the menu looks pretty awesome too.

Is it only places like BOG that you have to book as soon as possible or is it best to book all of them as soon as possible? It's only because I need to book this week but I might not have access to a computer you see.

It's always best to book asap you can always change or cancel (check individual restarants for policies) but at least you have ressies and a plan. Happy eating.

Good Morning Everyone. Now I've just been reading today's "Eatingwdw" and reviewing Kona Cafe at Poly.Looks awesome by the way.But here's my question. With so many fantastic restaurants to choose from at WDW,how do you go about it?. Do you rely on other people's recommendations ? When you dine at a restaurant that blows you away do you revisit or try somewhere new.? So how do you go about this awesome challenge.?:)
Here is how we go about it:

1) About 70% of our ressies are set and would take something major to change!! We did recently bump Mama Melrose of the list, due to two very unimpressive visits.
2) Another 15% are chosen based on the Extra-Magic park hours
3) The Last 15% are based on others recommendations,Newness (BoG), or recent refurb!!

Our perpetual to do list in no particular order:
1) CRT Breakfast--were disappointed this past Sunday :( - Struggle with this as it is THE ressie that was soooo Magical to M & M
2) Y & Y - love this joint and it was great again last week
3) Le Cellier - Had considered dropping it for 2013 when it changes to Sig all day...had a great 1 TS Credit lunch last Thursday, and don't see how to drop it!!
4) BoG - Just added of course!! Stay away from the NY Strip!!
5) Mansiuer Paul's - Always loved Bistro, Mansiuer Paul's didn't disappoint (how do you spell Mansiuer?)
6) Wolfgang Pucks - DW and 1 DD always hit this when other DD and I hit ressie of our choice; this time DD and I hit Jiko's, not bad, but don't think I would use 2 TS credits again.
7) Sci-Fi - DDs love the joint

The "other" 3 this past trip:
8) The Plaza - Don't get the "hidden gem" crowd! Decent, but no hidden gem.
9) Le Chefs - Good, but no comparison to Le Cellier or Paul's
10) Marrakesh - Very good and greatly surpassed my expectations!

**Edit** Failed to mention!! Met the nicest couple and 2 DS from NY at Le Cellier!! Were able to eat dinner Sunday evening at BoG at the table next to them (the manager of BoG really helped move our ressies closer together!!)!! We are planning our next trip to the world with them!!
