What NOT to pack?

There are so many lists of things to pack for a vacation or cruise that if you listened to all the "experts", you couldn't possibly pack it all. I travel for work all the time and have learned to pack just the essentials and leave at home anything I can buy at my destination if needed.

What are things that you have learned to leave behind to lighten your load? Things you never need or items that are easily available onboard?

The only thing we really packed that we completely didn't need was my sport coat. Even at Palo, I didn't wear it, and it wasn't needed.

Everything else that we packed, we did use. We had a packed-to-the-max rollaboard size suitcase for each of the four in my family (5-day cruise), with my wife and I commandeering some of the extra space in the kids' suitcases, and we also had a full backpack, my computer case, and my wife's purse.

Don't pack an iron. It will be removed from your suitcase. Same goes for multiple-socket extension cords.
Interesting. Our extension cord was not removed from our carryon, and we did use it. Agree on the iron, of course.

That is interesting!! I was told that they were no longer allowed. Was it a single plug extension, or a surge-suppressor type with multiple outlets?

Not something usual for a business trip, but DO consider packing a few laundry detergent pods. No added weight and will save you from buying out of the vending machines.

No need for quarters for the laundry. You can use you room key card to scan it.

I never found the over the door shoe holder handy - and DLC does not want you to use them anymore anyway.

I prefer to pack lightly, and then throw in a load of laundry. Shorts, T shirts, socks, underwear. Take minimal time, and no ironing, but saves a load on packing space.

Why would you need a 6 outlet power strip? Charging electronics/camera batteries? Are there not enough outlets in the cabins?
On the Magic and Wonder, there are three outlets in the room, two of which are so close together that it's almost impossible to use both at the same time. One outlet (or two, if you use one of the ones that are too close together) is needed to charge the wave phones (one at a time). I'm not sure how long those can go between charges. So we used our extension cord to charge our electronics.

From what has been released, it appears that they will have a limited number available to rent. I would guess that these will also start to be removed from luggage like irons if they are found.

inflatable floats/noodles

rafts and fun noodles cannot be brought on board and are not permitted in the pools or on Castaway Cay.

I understand they are not permitted in the pool but at castaway cay!!!! everyone floats on some time of raft/noddle/float their. We packed two noodles and used them their.

So they want you to pay for the use of a float at castaway cay...this plus the rental of extension cords is crazy. They just re-designed the Magic you would think they would have know people travel with multi items that need charging overnight.

I can understand why they don't want you to bring your own extension cord - who knows what somone has hacked together and will start a fire. But, as you said, they should realize the number of personal electronics that people travel with and need charging. A saving grace is that if your electronics use Mini-USB cords for charging, you can get mulit USB code plugs to use.

As far as floats, I am going to guess that they don't want them left behind on Castaway Cay, and have to deal with the garbage. Nor do they want them clogging up the small pools on deck. You can rent floats on Castaway Cay, but in reality, if you wait a bit, you can almost always find a free one. People rent them, and go back to the ship, and do not return them to the rental desk (there is no penalty for not returning them). After 10 AM, you can easily find them floating along in the ocean with nobody near them.

See, I always try to do the right thing. We were finished with ours and I walked across what I believe to be the hottest sand on Castaway Cay to return our float. :)
