Hey all,
I know that going into September, expectations are hi for the D23 Exposition, and they are such for good reason. However, I want to go ahead and clear the table of some of the announcements that you might be expecting which aren't going to take place. Let's get started:
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is not receiving a refurbishment beyond general maintanence in the near future, barring some upper management out-of-left-field decision. BTMR is one of the Magic Kingdom's most beloved attractions and will continue to be so in its current state. The only major change planned for BTMR that I am aware of is a chain lift system replacement, but that's been on the tables for a while and will probably continue to be.
- No, we aren't replacing the Indy Speedway with any new thrill ride, nor are we replacing it with any type of Wonderland expansion. Plans to remove Indy Speedway are not set in concrete, but the people who make things move are convinced the thing needs to go, and that usually means it will indeed head the way of the dodo. However, when that does happen, it will at least be after the Fantasyland changes are made, and depending on the change, the actual track may be used for a future attraction.
- The Backlot Tour is not being removed, and as far as I am aware, there will be no plans to discuss the changes coming to the Backlot Tour. I can let you know that the Backlot Tour is being modified in the future so that it becomes more of a behind-the-scenes tour of DHS, rather than a behind-the-scenes of a working studio. Think of it as a mini-Keys to the Kingdom tour attraction of DHS. Entrance and queue layouts are also being effected again as Pixar Place expands and the Backlot Tour entrance shifts to Streets of America. And no, these changes are not happening tomorrow.
- Space Mountain refurbishment is not being officially discussed. Not every card needs to be shown at the D23 expo, and as we get closer to the re-opening of Space Mountain, you can expect more and more information to be released in regards to the improvements made to the ride. The expo will not be the venue for that information, however.
Now with those things listed, let me say that the exposition is really going to knock your socks off (I believe). There are quite a few unexpected announcements to be made and lots to details to be filled in. And for those of you attending, I really think you'll love the DCA miniature.
Have fun.
