It's been some time since I'd looked into Song of the South release info, but after going back to Wikipedia...it must have been the 1982 and 1991 releases outside of the US that I was thinking of. Either way- Disney should seriously consider the release of a DVD in the US. Wikipedia says they consider the film to be "antiquated and fairly offensive," but I think that can be said of a number of things in a wide variety of Disney movies, yet those films get released from the vault. Oh well- we have 2 different books with the Tales of Uncle Remus so our kids know who these characters are- one with the Disney animation.
You can see the film on YouTube's movie feature, I believe.

Has your DD seen "Princess and the Frog?" It's a princess movie that's not your classic princess movie. Also, "Tangled" which was recently in the theaters (not sure if it still is or not), is not your classic princess movie, either, but Rapunzel may be there still for meet-and-greets, as well as Tiana.

I found a DVD in Kroger one day with a bunch of animated Brer Rabbit stories...not the Disney version, but at least now my kids know the stories behind one of their favorite attractions! I'll have to look up Song of the South on YouTube...cool idea!

Oh yeah we've seen both The Princess and the Frog as well as Tangled.. they've pretty much seen all the Disney movies from the last 6-8 years..it's the older ones they hadn't seen.

We just got back earlier this week and we encountered two characters from movies that weren't on my list that our girls really didn't know...

Terk from Tarzan
Flik and some of the other bugs from A Bug's Life
We also saw Elastagirl from the Incredibles which kind of surprised me

But the one that really shocked me- one character in the MCMCP parade that I have not thought about or heard about in AGES...Horace Horsecollar. A lot of people know Clarabelle Cow since she gets spots on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but Horace gets very little attention these days. You'd probably have to go back to some really old cartoons to find him though.
