What kind of car did you get?

I think there are a number of people who are at least somewhat interested in what kind of car they can expect when renting in Orlando. Each rental company offers different cars, and each location offers something different again. So, I am proposing that we note what kind of car we got when we rented - the company, what class you reserved, and a general idea f when you rented, if possible.

I was down over the first weekend of November. I booked a standard thorugh Budget (I usually do National but they were too expensive this time) because they take debit cards, and it sounded like they had Ford Fusions. Well, got to the airport, asked about the fusions and they told me they don't have them at this location. But they were also out of standard class cars, and so they upgraded me to a Mustang! I think the fact that I got in about 7:30 at night helpde in that matter.

For all UK residents going to WDW... I've just booked my car hire for my trip next year from this site I found: http://www.travelsupermarket.com/travelmerge/travelsearch.aspx?package=6 You stick all of your details in and it tells you the cheapest prices availiable. I've gone ahead and booked this car:

car.jpg

£216.17
Medium Family USA
Number Of Days Hire 14
Number Of Doors 4
Air Conditioning Y
Optional Extras Available Y
Collision Damage Waiver Y
Unlimited Mileage Y
Deposit Required Y
Cancellation Insurance Y
Local Tax Y
Theft Protection Y

A Medium 4 door car including all the extras listed for £216 ($418) for 2 weeks seems quite reasonable to me, as the previous best quote I had was £300 ($581) plus. There was a cheaper one on there at £196 ($379) but it was only a 2 door so I din't go for it. I have no idea what sort of car that is in the picture though. I don't think I will actually be provided with this make/model as there was just a lot of generic photos but I'll let you know when I find out.

Anyway, I hope that helps someone.

Rich.

I now rent through National's Emerald Isle service. It's a tad bit more expensive, but you get to the airport, walk out to the garage, look at the row of cars in your class, and pick the one you want and get in and drive.

I had pretty well brace myself for getting stuck with a Malibu (most common car National rents), but was very, very surprised to find myself look at a row of Volvo S40's! Now this is the tiny little Volvo, and probably a little smaller than a Malibu or something like that, but a lot more pleasant to drive.

I don't know if they have these over in the regular isle yet, but if you have Emerald Isle, and you want something a little different, try out one of these.

I find it funny you say that. They're all variations of the same platform.

I got a Chrysler Pacifica Touring and it was very nice, from Alamo when I was at Disney two weeks ago. I had originally booked a full size but we had some big bags this trip and I was worried about fitting it all in, so I upgraded at the counter last minute.
