What kind of camera for the parks?

I have a Canon SX30iS that I used last trip but I'm tired of carrying all that weight around. I'm looking at either the Sony RX100 III or the HX60v, optical zoom IS important to me since I go to many music and sport events but the RX100 has really made me question my decision.

Currently the Sony Alpha NEX-5 is on sale on the Sony web store for 500 with lens. A bit higher than your max price but it gives you more power than a standard point and shoot.

I would check B&H photo and video or Adorama used sections. You can usually find decent bargains there. You might be able to find a used ILC or CSC, there.

You may already know about it.....but I really like this site for reviews on cameras.

Personally, I would go with either the
Sony HX60V

or the Panasonic TZ60

For me the RX100 is just a little to expensive and doesn't have much of an optical zoom.

My money would be on the Sony HX60v or if you want to save about 30% for essentially the same spec, last years HX50v is the smart option.
