what is the highest amount of money you'd pay to go on a Disney vacation???

Normally when my family goes on a Disney vacation, we stay offsite which saves us a few thousand dollars.. In fact. I've never stayed onsite because of this. On top of that, hardly ever eat inside the parks. Unless it's a rare occasional perk. We used to get annual passes when they were affordable to us. Now it's base tickets (no park hoppers).

Soooo normally we cap our limit off at about $800 or $900. Because middle class theatre family on a budget! :) HOWEVER.. This is only because we would go ALL THE TIME. and wanted to keep coming back. So that was the way to do it.

I'm taking 4 friends on a senior trip there mid July.. And I made sure that I'm getting the full Disney experience. So I got the free counter service vacation package. Which includes rooms, tickets, and one counter service meal per day. July 17 - 22. 4 park days (no park hopper). Each of my friends put in $500. So my parents are a fully paying $1,750.50 for the package deal. But our actual total bill was $3,750.50. This does not include the dinner reservations my dad is paying for us, breakfast, or gas money.

Also for those interested, we're staying at the Art of animation resort. There are 5 of us so we're getting a family suite.

So.. To do a Disney vacation RIGHT.. Which means staying onsite, and having legit dining reservations and all that.. From upstate South Carolina, it's going to be about a $4,500 trip. Without things like memory maker, park hoppers, water parks, or hardly any perks outside of a free game of mini golfing (which is still pretty awesome.)

So ! What is your limit? Do you do your vacations in legit all-out Disney mode? Or are you more on a budget?
Answering to the best of our recollection:

1) what is the highest amount of money you'd pay to go on a Disney vacation??? Approx $3,500 back in the early 2000s. 4 Peeps, 2 under 10 yrs old, 1 Value Room, 6 days. No off-site meals etc...
2) So ! What is your limit? About $2,000 for trips nowadays (we all have AP) - 4 Peeps, 3 days, at least one MVMCP or MNSSHP, airfare, 2 Rooms, Value Resort
3) Do you do your vacations in legit all-out Disney mode? If you mean substantial splurge; no. About the the only "all-out" is dinner at Le Cellier, or maybe breakfast at CRT...
4) Or are you more on a budget? Conscious of our spending...

We pay about £6000 ($8550) for 4 return flights, 14 nights at a Disney Value resort and 4 14 day park tickets for WDW and Universal and that's BEFORE including meals, souvenirs, snacks, new clothes, Visa waivers, travel essentials and so on. So if I was to estimate the end cost including everything, I'd have to say an Orlando vacation costs us about £8000 ($11,500) all in. You Americans don't how good you got it :(
The positive- when you come to America your money is stronger. :) When we go most places overseas our money is weaker.
And what really drives me nuts- a few countries (Talking to you Turkey and Costa Rica!) charge in different currency than what they should. Last time I checked Turkey was NOT in the EU, and Costa Rica has a national currency CRC NOT the USD. Oh I get so mad at that!!

To answer your question, we usually spend 2100 to 2500 for a my way package for 2 adults only. It includes park hopper tickets, room at a moderate, and all onsite amenities. Our air fare is usually from $500 to 800 round trip from almost the Canadian border, with one plane switch in a major city. This was for 7 to l0 days trips.
That was how it was up til this year! Our 9 day trip this year is costing $3200.00 with same package. That's an increase of $1000.00 from last year and for one less day! We are staying at the same moderate, so the only thing that has changed is the overall price for tickets and resort stay. We are paying out of pocket this year for dining, and saving money. We only eat one main meal a day and we can split that at times, with QS each day.
I was amazed at the increase in pricing this year. We knew it was going up, but not that much.
Will we keep staying onsite?
The answer is No. We are looking at some beautiful and recommended 2 br condos close to Disney at about $450 a week. They are very nice. We will have to weigh not being in the Disney bubble vs renting a car (if we don't drive 2000 miles), driving in Orlando traffic, cost of groceries, etc. We can stay for 3 weeks for much less than onsite, but I must confess I would miss staying onsite. We will see...............

That's pretty darn accurate if you look at my description of my group of 5 for a 5 night, 4 theme park days stay at WDWgr
There is a thread elsewhere where people were breaking down their costs, it's crazy to read. Literally ranges from "wow that's reasonable" to "omg that's obscene". I've read some that were over $20k for a WDW trip.

For my trip- Our 5 nights at WDW this year are equal in cost, maybe a little higher, to our 7 night DCL cruise. That's crazy enough to me.

Price for plane tickets is the difference? Or did you get a discount on the room last year? The park tickets alone shouldn't be $1k- and resort prices seem to be similar. But I know our flights are about double the price this year, I haven't booked them yet hoping they will come down. And I'm still holding on to hope that a room discount may come out for our resort/room type!

I didn't count the plane tickets in this. This is the same package as we had last year. But you are right, we had a small discount of about $400.00, so it is about a $600.00 difference from this year. I book with the same travel agent I always book with. She is a certified Disney TA, and even she was surprised at the final total. Hope this helps answer your question:)

I'm surprised too! I wonder where the increase is coming from.
Maybe a RO discount will come out for your dates. We can hope, right :) I check my email everyday for a pin code. So far- nada. But I know other people who have received them for same dates..so there's always a chance!

Yea, that's what we are looking for, but so, far none available. We have a really great Disney TA, and if there is a deal out there for us, she will get it. It's what it is, and can't wait for our trip in November:)

My final price is a butt load. Seriously, after DVC dues for points used, airfare from the Mid-West, park hoppers, and one sit down meal a day (no dinning plan), my family of 5 is always above $6k for 7 nights. I really don't like to think about how much we spend, by paying DVC dues, airfare and tickets at different times of the year, it helps us "forget."

Was the $800-$900 when you had Ap? If so, how many nights? How many peeps? $900 is cheap for even a couple of peeps with offsite room and board + food...

How did you do 7 nights for $1,500? After the $700 room only discount, that left $800 for 6/7 days of everything else? The Undercover Tourist price tics are a small discount, but for 2 peeps at 6 days, the price still would have been over $1,000 (even back a few years ago).....

Just as an example, our trip last September was 6 nts/7days, with 5 day park tickets for 2 people without park hopper was 1268.00 with a 15% discount. I believe we had a pin code, but it could have been a general offer. We don't eat onsite, usually have some food sent ahead of our trip and visit the grocer down there for milk, beer, etc. We got airfare for 139 RT each, so with airfare and a few incidentals, it does come to a little over 1500, but that is what I try to keep it near.
For our trip in April, 2016, I did not get park tickets, as we will no longer pay the stupid prices they command. We did get round trip airfare for 106 each, and the room only for 7nts. was 760.00, so it was doable. We still go to boardwalk and Disney Springs, resorts, mini-putt etc. There is lots of stuff to do without going into the parks. We have just had to keep downsizing our vacation to accommodate their price increases, but we still had fun. I presently have a 6 nt. room only trip scheduled for October for 744.00, but if I cannot get the right price for airfare, I'll just change it to another time. Definitely have to be flexible.
When they decide to charge separately for airport transportation and buses, (and they will) many people just won't go at all.

A few years back, my family of 4, stayed at POFQ 6 nights, park passes, free TS DDP cost about $2700.

This year, family of 3, staying at Pop, upgrade to TS DDP, 6 nights cost $3800.

If I can get everything (hotel, tickets, food, transportation) except suveneirs for $1,000 a person or less, I am happy. I still find that a value.

I really prefer to stay on site and dine in the parks. We get more park time, a lot of the quick service food is worth it (just don't buy drinks), and we like the inclusive experience.

Now if a $20-$25 resort fee gets tacked on per day, I will may be staying elsewhere.

It is a whole combination of things. Going in non peak season, pin codes, rent dvc, order tickets with undercover tourist, share some meals, and only do about 2 table service. Whatever combination of things I can find for that time. It all adds up. We usually go for 6 nights. there is 4 of is in a room too. So about $700 just for room and tix per person for our next trip.

I am also on the lookout for Target deals where you get gift cards after a purchase. You can buy Disney GC's with Target GC's. I have about enough to pay for half if our food on the next trip :)

My trip is a drive from Buffalo, NY to WDW. 7 nights at the Polynesian with 6 days in the parks for 5 people. All 3 times it's ended up at $5k including all meals, gas, tickets, food, souvenirs and the hotel stays on the way.

I just found out about the red card target Disney gift cards! Planning on collecting them the next few months!

Yes it would've been annual passes.. It would've also been back between 2000 and 2013 when me and my sister could get in on a child's ticket and just dropped off at the gates.

Our Disney totals look something like this:

Flights (4 people, upstate New York to MCO): $0-$600 (saving $600-$1,200 using rewards points)
Room (2 adults, 2 kids, 6 nights, lower pricing season, moderate onsite resort): $1,200
Tickets (7 days, 2 adults, 1 10+ kid, 1 under 10 kid, non-hopper): $1,500
Food (7 days, 2 adults, 1 10+ kid, 1 under 10 kid, daily 1TS/1CS/1snack): $700-$1,400 (we save about half of our food costs if we travel during "free" dining, once you account for the cost of the room and tickets upgrades we have to purchase to be eligible)
Photography: $0 (we use our own camera; no MemoryMaker)
Hard ticket events, dessert parties, tours, etc.: $0 (we don't do them)
Miscellaneous (Souvenirs, airport parking, ME driver and Mousekeeping tips): $300

Grand total for a one-week family Disney vacation for 2 adults and 2 children (one over age 10): $3,900 to $5,000 (depending on accrued airline rewards points and Disney special offers)

I think our average on-site trips run around 6k, but that's including Universal as well. That's for a total of about 12-13 nights, on site at both brands and includes transportation and all of that. We also have had APs for both brands for the past 2 years.

If we stay off-site, I'd knock that price down to about 1k-1500 for the same time frame. But again, that's because we have the APs. I want to stay at a deluxe at least once, so I'm willing to up the cap to around 7-8k for one trip. It brings a tear to my eye just typing that....
