What is up with Universal's hours?

My one dad's friend is heading to Disney and Universal in late September/early October, and since I know the place by heart, I was helping him plan the vacation. Well, I was absolutely shocked at Universal's hours for September and October. Throughout most of September, IOA is only open 10-7 (the same length as 9-6, for easy comparison below ;) ) and Universal from only 9:30 to 5:30!!! Is this common for Universal during this time of year? If so, ok. Otherwise, they are surprising to me and my dad's friend.

Although Universal does have Citywalk, they don't have near the night-time offerings that Disney has when they close the parks early. I guess it means it won't be crowded at all, at least. Of course, perhaps the hours will change, like Disney's do very often.

In October the parks switch for some reason with IOA open from 9:00 to 5:30 or 9-5:00 on most days and the Studios from 10:00 to 7pm (same length as 9-6 ;) ).

For comparison, Disney's hours for MK in Sept. are generally 9-7, Epcot 9-9 (FW till 6), MGM 9-8 and Ak 9-5. In Oct, MK is generally 9-7 with some nights to 10 and 11!!, Epcot 9-9 (FW now till 7!!) , MGM 9-7:30, and AK from 9-5.

That's an easy answer. The Studio's hours are being cut back because of finances, and the number of guest during that time frame typically drop a great deal because Orlando-area schools are starting back up. IOA, is staying open later because t has an easier job of getting the locals through its gates.

The switch can be explained in three words...

HALLOWEEN HORROR NIGHTS!!! :sohappy:

The same thing happened last year. IOA is closed down early so a lot of the larger, more obtructive set pieces can be brought out without the guest being in the way. The events starts at 7, so that time is needed. Now, with IOA closing so early, the best thing for the Studios to do is keep the Studios open later so that guest have something to do before venturing into the Islands for a night of fear.

It's the same thing that happened last year. Don't be too upset it's all for good reasons.
