What is up with room availability??

I was just trying to price some room rates out online at the Contemporary and its rarely allowing me to choose a "normal" room. By that I mean a garden view or tower. It seems to restrict me to suites and other very high priced rooms.

And this is in early December of NEXT YEAR! What is going on?

What days?

I randomly pulled up December 14-15 2008 and got all the rates.

Garden Stand: 320
Garden Deluxe: 345
Tower Bay Lake: 380
Tower Theme Park: 410

That's all before tax.

What the heck!? I can access those dates too. However, I am unable to get all the prices for Dec 4-6 :(

My take on this whole thing is since you are so far out from the dates of your vacation just hold out for the room you want.

The internet is a wonderful thing, but it also sometimes works against the consumer. They are not required to sell you any room and since there are probably not many bookings for the dates you are looking at right now Disney probably wants to sell the most expensive rooms first. The less expensive rooms are probably available but the computer system will not release them for sale until enough of the more expensive rooms have been purchased.

The whole travel industry in a lot of ways has become a cat and mouse game between resorts/airlines and consumers. That is why something like Priceline can exist and you pay $150 for a hotel room and the person next to you pays $80. It's also why you could be sitting on an airplane in a seat that cost you $100 next to someone who paid $200. It's all about availability and when the companies release rooms, tickets etc. (Yes on occasion you do have arilines like Jetblue that claim they sell the least expensive tickets first and then get more expensive as those tickets are gone).

The Contemporary is no different from any other hotel in that they want to really be 100% booked for every night of the year. Right now time is on their side and less expensive rooms are easier to sell for December 2008 so they are not going to release very many of them now. Call a travel agent and have them work to see when the rooms open up. Just have patience and they probably will.

Source: I've just read a lot of travel mags over the past few years. In my experience what they have said has been pretty accurate.

I don't know what CRO is but I did call the telephone booking line. I talked to a representative and she offered to give me the rates(but could not guarantee a travel agent could book it). So I said sure, at least if she gives me the rates that means SHE can book it. However, when she tried to pull them up she said..."huh...I can't get the rates for the cheaper rooms. You're right. Sorry"

I then asked if she knew a date when I asked them and she says she has "no idea, its entirely up to marketing...."

CRO = Central Reservation Office

screw the contemporary and stay at the Poly:lol: . Contemporary will be all full of construction building the mystery wing anyway.

Off topic= I think RyGuy is the only nickname for Ryan. Live in Romeo, we are not brothers but neighbors:wave: . And Disneyfreaks of course:ROFLOL:

My gf and I both really liked the rooms at the contemporary. That's why we want to stay there. They don't look quite as comfy at the Poly. Poly wins in atmosphere, Contemporary in rooms. If we don't stay there we would just spend the entire week at PO:FQ. As of right now we plan on switching 4 days in.

But I am always willing to listen to suggestions :)

i have found the same thing...if i make a small change (like to the meal plan) and update, i find my room has changed up to a concierge level...frustrating!

I second the idea that you should call Kingdom Konsultants to book your room. I always use them and they are great.

I have, they can't access the rates either.

But, like others have said, plenty of time :)

I just don't understand why they wouldn't have all the rooms available for booking one week but have them available the next!

My wild guess is that they intend to house the crew and star power for the Christmas parade at the Contemporary during that period. They usually film the first weekend of December.

Merf I see your point about the filming for x-mas parade and putting up the star power etc, etc. But isn't the Grand Floridian suppose to be like the nicest hotel on property, why wouldn't they put their stars up there?
