I sw Mickey's Hat when I was there in August, and loved it! (Interestingly enough, I didn't like any of the pictures I had seen of it prior to my visit.) I'd like to see it remain somewhere in the parks permanently, if not in its present location.

I think it should say where it is...or maybe moved by Fantasmic!

Oo, good idea. Plop it down right on top of the show while it's going on like a giant candle snuffer. Stop that load of bologna in it tracks :)

it is a permanant fixture. Its not going away.

Then what exactly is the deal with The Great Movie Ride? Surely Disney wouldn't keep one attraction directly behind a fixture like the hat so it's not openly seen by people entering the park.....

It's not going away.

If any of you have looked at various media featuring the four-park icons and various merchandise reccently, the hat is in place of the Earful Tower. Sometimes you can get a hint of the future by just simply looking at the merchandise!

While I really love the look of "the Hat", I'm not wild about the location. I really miss the old look of Hollywood Boulevard with the Chinese Theatre at the end of the street. The hat ruins the illusion of being in a real place in a different time, for me. But watching the construction of the hat over the net, and then seeing the thing in person, I realize that it's probably going to stay in it's present location, so I've accepted it.:(

The hat would be great on the path to fantasmic (a long walk and plenty of room). Make it a symble of fantasimic since the show is all on sorceror mickey and he is identified by the hat.

I totally agree with you. I loved the look of the Chinese Theatre and the great movie ride is one of my favorites and now its coverd up by the giant hat. I like the hat, but the location stinks!

I am also saying "Hi"! I just found this place and this is my first post! This is great!!

Heading for the great escape.
If you want to get ahead get a hat. Perhaps its because too many of us from outside the US have no real recognition of the chinese theatre, but can readily identify with the sorcerers hat. Or putting on my more cynical head, that the hat is more likely to feature on merchandise.
I like it anyway. And as ive never qualified as an urban plannercant say if its right oe wrong to locate it where it is. Howeverr if it was up to me id plant it right in the middle of that boring Indy show!!

Move the hat to another area of the park and also move Walt Disney: One Man's Dream and have the hat as the entrance to the One Man's Dream attraction! :sohappy:

They can't just "move" it, they'd have to take it apart, then rebuild it somewhere else, re-apply the paint and everything. That would probably cost a lot! And even if they could move it, where else would it fit??

Sadly, the Chinese theatre isn't "Disney's". When you associate the studios with the theatre, you're remembering something that belongs to MGM and not soley Disney like SSE or the Castle. The hat, sad to say, is something totally Disney you can associate with the studios. They probably wanted it that way all along and it's never going to go. :(

But, it's not all bad when you think about it! :D Anything Disney can't be that bad. ;)

When you associate the studios to the theater, you are associating it with the motion picture industry as a whole. The Chinese theater isn't MGM's, its a landmark, a famous piece of history in thje world of movies. I really dont like it when people think everything in the studios has to be related to Disney, but that is just my opinion. Disney, although a great company (my favorite :)), is mostly know for their animated movies. That is only one part of Hollywood, which is what the place is trying to get a feel for. That is why they celebrate more than just Disney movies. And it isnt just MGM that is also recognized. I'd say in the movie at the end of GMR, a movie from just about every well know company is shown. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. The park is mainly a tribute to the movies, not just "Disney", although I agree Disney should be the main focus of the park. But at least for the GMR, I think they should showcase more than just Disney movies.

BTW, did you know Mary Poppins premiered at Mann's Chineese Theater? So either way, it is a part of Disney history.

It most likely wont be moved, but if they were to move it, it definitely wouldn't be by Fantasmic. It would make that area look cluttered b/c Fantasmic is right by ToT. They wouldn't put 2 large structures right by eachother, would they? Let's just face it: the hat is there to stay. I don't think it looks bad, anyway. :)
