Gone.
I am surprised they didn't just cover it and put the LED's in front.
Gone.
I would pay good money to be able to walk that track line with the lights on. Good money.I was up there this morning. Just be lucky you can't see any more than you can now because it's quite ugly up there. Vehicle parts and bits as well as a few pieces of spare track are on the floor. There is a storage room for extra animatronic wigs and another small area for custodial use. The upper right area is the structure for the top of the fright elevator. Directly above that is a cherry picker for the hatch to the roof (not centered in the room) but lately it's be left extended with black drapery over it.
Couldn't believe all of the sunflower seeds and chewed fingernails that I found along the track last night. There were so many of them that I thought by the time I reached the top I might find a human hand.
oh yeah the "window" is a freaky set piece. I look at it everytime I ride. I mean the window the girl was looking out from isn't big...it's been painted over with black paint but DAYUMN the whole set is like 4 meters tall maybe 13 ft long...it;s huge and all scary and nasty looking sitting there bolted to the wall.
I still wonder about the animatronic girl in the window...why would disney spend so much money deconstructing the space station scene yet leave her skinless in the window...wouldn't it make sense just to remove her?
Raven, you need to find the access latter to the window and see if she's still in there.
is there not a hatch at the top of it? I'm sure I've seen pictures taken from the top but for the moment and would love to take some pictures from there - especially of Illuminations, all I can find for just now is Mickey standing on top of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0ceqMiC_2s&feature=related
What always gets me about that is that the commercial had to made using a helicopter. That helicopter made one heck of a downdraft as it went past Mickey. That's one brave Mickey!

If I were up there and I got hit my the downdraft I would probably wet myself. On the other hand it might be more secure kind of like standing on a mountain or a regular building because its round unlike a tower.
Yes, it`s mentioned with photos in the linked thread. Raven also mentions it above (with the zip lift)is there not a hatch at the top of it?
Here are some pictures I found:

From what I've heard, Mickey *did* wet himself while he was up there...
As for the downdraft, there is a support post that Mickey was secured to. His body blocks it from view in the commercial, but it was spotted a few months ago when they were power-washing the exterior and the maintenance people just left it extended during the day. (Someone posted a pic of it, asking if it was a new lightning rod)
