What in Walt's name do I do with a 6 year old?

In previous trips to Disney, we've always run commando-style.
Using street entertainment as a blocking screen to get that next fastpass, hanging by the exit of the show so you can get out before the crowd, the hotel is just a place to lay your head, you know the drill.

But now, with the child, that really isn't really a possibility.
So tell me about all the things I skipped before.

I've signed the kid up for a Pirate Adventure cruise and I plan to try to get a Pirates League booking as well.
But what else?

Chip N' Dale singalong? Yeeha Bob? Dream Along with Mickey? DJ Dance Party?
Character Breakfasts?!

What do actual children do at Disney?:joyfull:

:p:p:pI'm sorry to say...i am one of those people who never thought about going to WDW without kids! Don't get me wrong, I love Disney but it was just never a thought before becoming a mother...

My two oldest kids are now 9 & 6... they have never been to WDW but they have been to Disneyland Paris twice and they are the ones who never want to stop!!
Of course given that it never occurred to me to go to these places without children it is obvious that they set the pace!

We do character buffets... we stop when necessary.. we make them sit down for snacks... we basically do what they feel like doing!

We don't contemplate leaving before park closing unless one of them is sick or really tired... .in that case i will leave with that one and DH can stay with the other.

The questions for me is ... what do you do there without kids ??

I do the same thing that I do when my kids go, ride on rides, see the shows, go shopping, and just enjoy being at WDW. Plus every time I see some kid have a meltdown I smile and think to myself, "I am glad that is not me". My hubby and I went several times before we had kids and now I leave my kids and hubby at home and go in October for the food and wine festival. I do a lot of seminars and special events and pretty much do what ever I want. If I want to go on People Mover 5 times in a row, then I can without having to worry about the kids complaining or wanting to go do something else. Disney is an amusement park like Six Flags or Universal etc. You don't think that adults without kids go to those? Why would WDW be any different? Disney is great without kids!!

My two really enjoyed the interactive pirate adventure in Adventureland. They got hooked and followed one map after another. Took a little over an hour to do them all (they ran from clue to clue) and they had the maps as souvenirs. They also enjoyed sorcerers of MK. We didn't get much done as we didn't try it till the end of our holiday but you get a cool pack of cards and can, I believe, pick up a new pack each day from the firestation as you enter Main Street.
They, too, love the play areas - Bone Yard in AK and the one in HS, but it's closed now. We made a deal to leave time for the play areas till later in the day when the rides were busier.
Kidcot stops are great-actually a fun way for the whole family to tour world showcase-check out each pavilion and find the stops at the same time.
Character meals are fun. We like Chef Mickey and Tusker House in AK for breakfast. Crystal Palace and Park Fare good too for meeting characters other than the fab 5. We loved meeting Lilo and Stitch at the Ohana breakfast but weren't taken by the family style served food.
Have a fab time.
