What If... Season 2: Discussion Thread

It's becoming more of a popular opinion...though until they stop making :greedy: they will keep pumping it out. :bookworm:

Also I consider it a genre now moreso than just specific films. Like there's probably 20 dramas a year in film, same with action, comedy, romance, etc , and next year there will be 3 MCU superhero genre films.

I personally don't think it's over saturated when you look at it like that...but you're also probably asking the wrong person. :hilarious:

Yeah.. The sad thing is nowadays is that everything is about dat moola. :p:greedy:

I'm not sure if I can clarify that superhero movies are their own genre... It's still smaller than the other genres, even with the far inferior DC cinematic universe coming ahead (They couldn't find a way to tie in The Dark Knight series and Man of Steel?).

Dark Knight is probably my favorite comic book movie ever :D

I just think DC is playing catch up now and trying to do too much at once. Like...Batfleck looks cool...I'd love to see a Red Hood batman movie before rushing into justice league...because once you go big with brainiac or darkseid. ..everything else will seem inferior

Yeah, DC is really rushing for the Justice Leauge movie.. They're putting Wonder Woman into a Batman vs. Superman movie for no reason but to speed the process up.

Look on the bright side.. At least we won't get a standalone Aquaman movie. :p

I would be really disappointed if they ended the MCU. I've seen 12 movies, 4 TV series, and 5 one-shots, I don't want it to start over now. DC is going about everything the wrong way. They looked at Marvel and saw the success of the expanded universe, and tried to imitate it, but ended up rushing it. Marvel phase 1 and 2 combined had 5 standalone franchises, and 2 team up franchises, but the key is having 5 sequels between it. They are introducing too many characters at once, and not allowing it to expand naturally. Do we really need 4 team ups in phase 1?

Not to mention Lex Luthor, Cyborg, Flash, Aquaman, Doomsday, teasing Darkseid with that Knightmare Batman vision sequence with the Omega symbol...arg...DC...you have the two biggest superhero on the planet...just have a movie about them.

Also the standalone Aquaman movie is coming out in 2018....get ready!:D (I'm not joking either):cyclops:

The MCU would need some real stinkers and loss of interest...and honestly I'd be shocked if that happened.

In 2014 - GotG was supposed to be that potential "stinker" movie...it's now arguably one of Marvel's best
In 2015 - Ant Man was supposed to be the dud, and while it wasn't GotG, on the smallest MCU budget ever, it made over 500 Million which is really good.
In 2016 - I think the next risk is Dr. Strange. But they seriously have an all-star cast for that movie. And a horror director, because that's what Dr. Strange needs because the comic is really trippy and weird:p

If I remember right @TheOriginalTiki had a concept called DirectEars.

Basically a thread/podcast thing where you write movies?

I would love if that became a thread on the forums! :D I'd love to redo the DC Cinematic Universe from the ground up:bookworm: or pitch a new Pixar movie!

I have to admit that Aquaman is incredibly la,e since doesn't really have any superpowers (his power range is the same as Dr Dolittle).
This is a line of thinking that really butters my biscuits because Aquaman is really a genuinely interesting character rife for a political drama akin to House of Cards or The West Wing as King of Atlantis in the right hands but no one gets that character potential because of shows like the Superfriends that became things that are in public conciousness to this very day that really limited his power and then put him in situations that made him useless ("We have a problem in the desert! Let's go Aquaman!") This is probably an overreaction on my part because of personal drama, but I really don't like seeing good characters torn down.

I wish they didn't change his look so much. I like the orange and greenish-blue. The new one seems too intimidating, like a villain almost. He also looks like a Thor character where he's mostly there just to be that guy who has all of the real soap-opera style family drama.

I could go on a rant about how I really don't like the direction of the DCU.

It's just clear that they didn't have a true plan for an expanded universe before Man of Steel, and are now rushing stuff that doesn't need to be rushed.

They had a subtle Batman reference with the Wayne satellite, but that was it...and we haven't seen another DCU film since 2013...basically 3 years in-between your first 2 films.

There is so much mythology and history to the DCU that you needed to establish before we got all these crossovers. I really hope BvS is good...but I wish they handled it differently leading up to this...and you didn't even need to follow the same formula as Marvel...you could have even done it better.

The problem was Man of Steel got mixed reviews and Warner Bros was just like...hmm...The Dark Knight Trilogy was successful...people like Batman and he makes money, let's put him in the next movie! Oh, the Avengers was successful...now we should do Justice League!

No...:cyclops: That's not a plan...that's just reacting to other things and that not how you build a universe...you establish your world first and you have confidence in your stories...Iron Man was a B-list character before 2008...when you thought of Marvel you thought of Spider-Man and Wolverine. But now, you think of Thor, Ant-Man, Rocket Raccoon, all these crazy characters because they were presented well

Eh...I really would like to redo it from the ground up...that'll be a project I'll work on:D

Also this is not Aquaman...this is just Game of Thrones meets Superheros

Aquaman should be the original bright colored costume like DSquared was saying...have him be a combination of the Thor type comedy and the Hawkeye irrelevancy on the Justice League...because everyone thinks all he can do is talk to fish...but he's actually very powerful.

I'm actually excited to see Jason Momoa in Justice League because of how great he pulls off the big burly uncivilized characters not used to the norm like Khal Drogo and Ronon Dex. I just hope we get a good movie considering that Dawn of justice looks like it's loosely adapting one of the greatest comics of all time, The Dark Knight Returns. Only problem is that context is completely different. That said, I already have my ticket for midnight and I'm eager.

Supposedly he and the Flash are gonna have cameos in Dawn of Justice, so that'll be interesting...I'm assuming they will comes from that nightmare scene of the Darkseid future which might tease the Justice League.
