What Hotel is the most immersive?

I'll add in another for POR. I'm from the Carolinas and the Bayou felt like I was back in Charleston on a boat floating through the cypress trees and keeping an eye out for gators.

It's probably my favorite for just walking around too since you can walk over to POFQ and enjoy that resort too.

Side note: I have yet to stay in AKL but I really really want to.

lol, listen I would not advocate blowing the kids college fund or your retirement account to stay at a deluxe but if they wont blow the budget substantially they are great.

after becoming a widow at a way to young age, I've learned that the object of life is NOT to be the richest dude in the coffin.

Too true . . . POFQ just hits a sweet spot for me.

I vote for The Wilderness Lodge. Animal Kingdom Lodge does have the advantage of animals around, so i suppose I should name it No. 1, but I just really, really, really love WL. Frankly, I'm pretty happy with Grand Floridian as well

Of the ones I have stayed at, POR and Beach Club. I have never stayed at AKL, but would give that a vote in a heartbeat. Poly is also very immersive... especially at night with the tiki torches lit up outside along the paths.

I think the Poly is the most immersive, not to stay others are not. Just my opinion. You pay for that immersive experience however. I also enjoyed Pop Century and POR. While my kids want to stay at the Beach Club next time around, I'm leaning heavily towards a Value-Plus (you know Pop or AoA), or a moderate resort. Purely for budgetary reasons. I'd like to try to the AoA, since I've not been there.

Animal Kingdom Lodge totally stole the crown from Polynesian, if only by virtue of being so far away from the parks that it often doesn't feel "Disney" at all. Probably the only resort that I'd feel fine spending all day long at and not miss the parks at all.

Coronado Springs is a right up there, though.
The walk around Lago Dorado and the Dig Site area is very impressive, and completely different at night.

After reading all the responses I really need to check out Animal Kingdom Lodge. Stayed at DVC Wilderness Lodge last year and loved it.
Even if you don't stay there, you can have a perfectly lovely afternoon wandering around the place, looking at the artifacts, watching the animals, and eating at one of the restaurants.

WDW has done a good job on immersing you into all their resorts from moderate up. I'd say that AKL is the winner, due to the atmosphere, and savanna, complete with animals. The Poly is good at this as well, but loses points since they got rid of the lobby waterfall. WL is really good as well; it really feels like a national park lodge (idealized version). The Caribbean used to be very immersive, but the current construction derails that, although it was still nice. The other deluxes and moderates succeed to varying degrees (Contemporary succeeds in being contemporary).

However, immersive isn't necessarily tied to how good a resort is, or how much you enjoy. I don't find Beach Club to be all that immersive, if immersive means transporting one away to what it purports to be, but it's easily one of our favorite resorts, and the detailing is amazing. Well, I do feel that the Beach Club is immersive in one way; I'm immersed in a great resort.

Animal Kingdom Lodge is very immersive but it's obviously a hotel with an African theme. If the buildings were spread out like the polynesian then I'd put it at the top of the list. Port Orleans French Quarter is my top pick for the most immersive since it truly looks and feels like the French Quarter of New Orleans. Every little detail along the walk around the resort puts you into New Orleans. Grab some beignets and go sit outside and you can't be in any place but New Orleans. I'd put a vote in for the Wilderness Lodge except for the fact it's always 20-50 degrees warmer than any National Park lodge.

I loved the immersive feel of POFQ. It was quite and the landscaping was beautiful. The styling on the outside of the buildings was done really well. I haven't stayed anywhere else yet though.
