What happens when the park is full?

I have always thought that was the case, Since I have never been denied entry when I have been to WDW since I always stay on property.
I am just considering that there must be a capacity limit set by the fire department for safety reasons in case of an emergency situation such as fire, unless disney calculates the number of on property guests and takes thoes numbers to get the capacity allowable for day guests and the parks gates close when that number is reached leaving certin margin so resort guests don'r get denied entry. Don't forget that the turnstyles counters are regularly checked by the CMs ar the gates, I know in the early days the turnstyles were the odometer type counters. could some one tell me if the turnstyles currently in use are electronic with digital readouts, or were the older turnstyles upgraded to install the card readers for the addmission media?

A cast member told me that Disney tries very hard to let AP holders in on a priority basis, and often they will close the park to guests coming through the parking lot without an AP if they are estimating a high number of AP and resort guests. They closed Epcot on New Year's Eve 1999 very early in the morning, and the parking lot was empty....

I have been to the park when Main Street USA is filled to capicity.
It was Columbus Day Weekend. We entered the park 30 minuted before SpectroMagic. There were cast members there with portable PA systems announcing that Main Street is closed due to over crowding. Please use the "overflow" entrance to Tomorrowland.
We were then all escorted backstage stage through a large set of double doors. There were several cast members holding the red flashing things to make sure nobody gets off the path. It was kind of dirty back there...
The path ended up bringing us to the entrance to Buzz Lightyears' Ride. When then left the park the same way an hour later becuase the lines were so long.

I did not arrive at Epcot until after 8 p.m. NYE 1999 and the parking lot was empty. I showed them my PAP and they put a card on my car and waived me in. I have never seen a park that corwded ever. I have been to the parks many times when the signs have said full but have always gotten in. I have parked at Epcot before when the MK parking lot was closed and just took the monorial over and got right in.

I was thinking. For every 1k guests at the parks, how mnay staff do they need to have in case there is an emergency ?
Maybe sometimes they show as full not because they reached capacity but because they didn't expect a surge and are not at full staff ?

Funny,I've never heard of any parks having a certain capacity. That's just weird. I mean,what if you've come a long way from a far country to go to the parks and then you get there and they're closed? I'd be absolutely furious with Disney.

If I remember correctly, Epcot holds 75k guests.... or was it the number for one of the stages of the Security plan? :brick:
I spent NY ´98 there and when I had a guest come and tell me she had lost her little daughter, I cried a bit with her! IT was soooo packed and I´m not sure we got to any of the faces in the evacuation plan! Thank God I wasn´t there for NYE ´99... I heard it was crazy for cm´s ! A friend of mine was there with some family and they were stuck in the traffic to go to the parks and at around 8-8:30am, they heard Epcot was already closed, so they ended up not going to the parks.... he told me they just wanted to get out of that traffic jam!

Interesting... I didn´t know they let AP holders in if they said it was full. We were told during training for NYE 98 that they wouldn´t let people in unless they saw people leave, but that would be resort guests and as a resort guest, you were allowed to get in A PARK, whichever was open, not the one you wanted if that one was already closed... did I make sense?

It is purely based on number of guests. Disney has a very well oiled information machine that can predict, fairly accurately, attendance for any given day of the year.

It doesn't matter how far you have traveled. If the parks hit capacity, the closing is a matter of safety. The amount of fun you cna have drops proportionately to the number of guests in the park. When the closing point has been reached, people are still enjoying themselves but will probably wnat to return another day to see parts of the park and attractions.
