So traveling in June and bringing inlaws. Mom-in-law has had health issues and while I have made reservations for dinner for 6, I worry some nights she might not be feeling well enough to trek over wherever we are going. If 4 in a party show up will the other 2 be charged the no show fee or will they adjust to a table for 4.

You only get charge d a no-show fee if no one turns up.

Don’t worry, just let the CM know when you check in that MIL isn’t able to come.

if it's one you pre-pay for (like CRT), you'll want to let them know ahead of time. :)

Not always necessary, although it would be a good idea, if only to allow someone else to book perhaps.

We booked HDDR on our first onsite stay. When we were getting ready to leave the BC, our then 14 year old said he was feeling really dizzy and just wanted to go to bed. So we left him almost asleep and headed over. When we checked in, we just said our eldest wasn’t well, and the CM sent us to the ticket collection office and they refunded us. That was when we really felt that “Disney Magic” for the first time.

We’ve never had a problem in the past but a couple weeks ago while checking in for a reservation at Mama Melrose, I let them know one of our sons would not be joining us as he was not feeling well, so it would be a party of three instead of four for dinner. The hostess said “well that changes everything-you will need to wait while we make this change“ and told us to “have a seat over there”. I was kind of surprised as that had never happened to us before. After 20 minutes I asked if there was a problem and if we could be seated. They told us they had to run a new ticket for our reservation and it wouldn’t be much longer. 10 minutes later they called us and seated us at...Yep, you guessed it… A table for four people! :bored:

That's kinda silly. You'd be seated at a 4-top regardless of if you had 3 or 4 people. As a single traveler I will sometimes book for 2 if I can't find a good time for 1 (and yes, the computer will sometimes be able to seat 2 and have nothing for 1!). I then just tell them at check in that there will only be 1 dining tonight. Never had a problem - for all they know, I might have had a fight with my wife and she stormed back to the room!

When the wife and I travel I always make ressies for a party of 3 that way we don't get stuck at a little table in the corner. And nobody says a thing.
So you update your head count when you arrive or after they start to seat you?

I do the same. So often can’t find a table for one, so I book for two. If it’s breakfast I just tell them my teenage Son/Daughter can’t be bothered to get out of bed and so it’s just “Dad” on his own!

Never had a problem with it from any of the CM’s. I always leave a big tip to make up for the fact the bill is smaller due to being only me. (Or I just eat enough for two!)

I doubt they'd charge the no-show fee if you explain the deal...they tend to be extremely accommodating
Well. You can pick your nose and eat it in public and nobody will probably say a thing, doesn't mean it's right to do.
heard that....this thread has many examples of peeps that don't have issue with making a ressie with a head count they don't plan on honoring.....karma anyone?

In fairness it’s not that we do it because we don’t care, it’s because the Disney reservation system forces us to book for two people because it rarely shows availability for a single person.

I get why Disney limit availability for solo diners. They want to maximise profit by filling every available seat. But when I pay the same for my ticket to WDW as anyone else why should I be restricted in the restaurants I can book simply because I’m traveling alone.

Now I get the paradox - by booking two seats when I only need one I’m also restricting someone else from eating in that restaurant who also paid as much as me for a ticket to WDW. But as a single guest, I’m most likely to be seated at a table for two, meaning the second seat at that table is unavailable regardless if I were to book for one or two people, or turn up as a walk in.

One place that I never have an issue booking as a single guest is Germany in Epcot, where the tables of 8 (I think) are filled with multiple parties. I’ve had a couple of meals there, and had some great conversations with random families. I also have no problem eating at the bar next to strangers.

So come on Disney, sort out some more flexible seating and stop discriminating against us solo guests just to squeeze a few more bucks to the bottom line.

Although I frequently travel solo, I always book for two. Who knows? Maybe I'll run into someone in a line, on a bus, somewhere-and want to invite them to share a meal. But since that's never happened, I always dine solo. I just tell the CM at check-in, and in many dining ADRs over many years, I'vwe never been charged.
