What happens to the Lost and Found

So I was reading another thread and it got me wondering what Disney does with all of the lost and found items? I have heard that laundry services washes all of the clothing items then they are donated to local charities/shelters (at least this is what they do with the Run Disney lost and found items). But what about all of the sunglasses, cell phones, cameras, and other misc. items?

A few years ago one of my boys lost something, nothing major. It was labeled with our name and address on it. Disney mailed it to us.:joyfull:

Once an item is found it is turned into the nearest attraction or merchandise location. They will keep it for about one - two hours to see if a guest comes looking for it. It is then sent to Guest Relations where it is held until the end of the day. At that point the items are sent to a local Lost & Found building. If a guest goes to GR and do not find their lost item they will fill out a form which describes the item(s) and provides contact information (if the guest is departing Orlando they are asked to provide an address.) At the L&F facility the CMs check each item they receive against the a database to see if they can match up the owner. If a match is found Disney will contact the owner and arrange for the item(s) to be returned. If the guest is still in the Orlando area Disney will deliver the item(s) at no cost. If not in the Orlando area Disney will ship the item(s) to an address provided by the owner at no cost.

After all of the above, if the owner and item cannot be matched it will remain in L&F for 90 days. After that time a determination is made as to the status of the item(s). they are either donated or sent to Cast Connection where CMs can purchase the item(s) for their own use.

NOTE: If the item is money, it will be returned to the finder if no one claims it.

Found a $50 on the floor of the Riverside Mill at POR and turned it into the front desk. They didn't take any info from me and were actually shocked someone was turning in money to the lost and found. It's not been 90 days since I turned it in wonder if I can call up and see if someone claimed it. :cautious:

landuah, the procedure was a bit different for me. I went back to the Rose & Crown (where I'd left my card the night before), and was told that it was probably at Epcot Guest Relations. EGR didn't have it, but gave me the number of Lost & Found, which by now DID have it. So I got to go directly to their office and pick up my card.

I was riding on SM and thought I was holding tight enough in my hands onto my favorite Tigger hat that I had bought on our first trip. It blew out of my hands somewhere on or just after the launch. I reported it to the CM who advised me to check in L&F the next day because they collect items from the tracks after the ride is shut down for the evening. Well it never turned up and somewhere.... someone has my green Tigger baseball cap that I bought in 1995.:arghh::(

Probably got caught on a rocket and blasted off into space. Need to let the space sweepers know it is floating around out there :cyclops:
