What happens overnight?

When the parks close, what happens? I know the lights go off on Spaceship Earth around 2 am but do all the lights in the parks shut off too? Are there security guards that roam around. I would be freaked out to have that job!

I know this question sounds as if I want to break in the parks at night but that's not my point at all!

Two summers ago (2005), I stayed at the Beach Club and had a view of Spaceship Earth. I got up to go to the bathroom around 4:00ish in the morning and the lights were still on on SSE :)

I guess it varies, but there is a webcam on the internet of Spaceship Earth and it usually, noy always I guess as in your case, goes off at 2 in the morning.

i believe that is when they get the parks ready for the next day. I do not beleive they turn the lights off- for the very reason that alot of the resorts can see them at night.

Many of the lights stay on, however it's not exactly what it looks like during nightime when the park is open. 1st off, there is no music at all. All the streets are pressure-cleaned with water, and general maitnance is done on everything. All rides go through a 4-hour inspection, and the ride only opens that morning with the park if it passes the inspection. There's a fair amount of stuff going on, but it may ruin the magic for some. There's lots of Golf Carts and such zooming around on the paths.

Night time in the parks after they're closed is quite busy! There's constant painting, cleaning, pressure washing, performing maintenance check ups on attractions, cooking, gardening and more every single evening!

Also, security is there patrolling all night long. There are sensors all over the place that are motion activate that will catch anyone or anything that wanted to be a stow away over night in any area of the parks.

I hope that helps!

Hi. When I was a Cast Member in 2000, the music did stay on at night in the parks. When we were cleaning up, stocking new merchandise, couting registers, etc......there was music playing in Fantasyland and Toon Town. When we would go and take the strollers back at night, as you entered each land, the music would change.

The weirdest site I saw while working there at night, were work vans and trucks driving through fantasyland.... Very weird......

Ya the vechile movement is wierd. Last time I was in a park after hours, it was 4am at the Magic Kingdom, and there was no music. From my understanding, it does eventually go off, but it's very late when that does happen.

Thanks for the info everyone! Do people in control rooms or something actually control the music or does it just....do its thing. From what you're saying, it sounds as if it just shuts off whenever. Actually, I would want to be there at night, since I know now that their is plenty of activity going on! It would be cool if there was a prize for Million Dreams that allows you to travel with a group of CM's that work at night, although I doubt a lot of people could stay up that late. Maybe the people in the castle will see it.

Although I don't know 100% for sure, my best guess would be the music is controlled by both computers and people. The CM's would turn it on and off, and the computer would just loop the general background music. There are also sections of the park music that can be turned "off" via "remote" (sound board.) This is useful for Castle Stage Shows, Woody's Cowboy Camp, Jedi Training, and other shows, including Firworks and Parades. All the shows would sort of "take over" the regular music until the show's conclusion. As we all know, you can't hear the parade in Tomorrowland, it just simply plays along the route.

This past Oct. 1st my wife and I were in the Magic Kingdom at 6:00 am. They music was on, there were many people around cleaning etc and lots of vehicles on Main Street. What was really wierd was that we were driven into the park from back stage behind the Tomorrowland Theatre to the Castle for our portrait session. We got married at the Boardwalk on Sept. 30th. I have to say it was a once in a life time experience and totally Awsome!

Congratulations!

Ya, the music was on by then for me as well. I got the MK around 4, and the music was on within about an hour.

Chape, this is random but what is that picture of in your avatar...the one with the sorcerer hat??
The Feature Animation Building in Burbank, CA. Where almost every Disney Animated feature was made. It's kinda interesting that all the main animation buildings now how Sorcerer's hats, CA's is there, and MGM (although no longer a working dept.) got one for 100 years of Magic, and DLP's animation building has one as well.

Back to the topic...

Corrus are those Figaro Fries, McDonalds, or regular?

I read the previous post about sensors that look for stow-aways during the night and such - I am not surprised.

In this day of video cameras being everywhere we go, I would not be surprised if WDW security has camera systems covering pretty much every square inch of the park. I suspect that we are being watched more than we realize.

I remember reading that all attractions that have the very dark areas are covered by infrared cameras, allowing CM's to easily watch for people that try standing up or even getting out of say a boat or something when it is very dark.

Big Brother - and Disney - are watching! :xmas:

I would say you would have to have monitoring for liability reasons. This way if someone says they were injured or assulted etc. This would cover them.

I enjoy watching how the parks operate as much as I do the exhibits.
