What happens if I get an extra guest mid-stay?

I have a friend...let's call him Steve. He's planning a trip in August with a party of 5, his wife and three children 9, 6, and 4. There is a chance that his mother-in-law who lives in Florida may want to join them for a few nights. She lives about three hours away. How would you recommend he deal with the situation? (besides tell the old hag to stay away! Hehe!) Should he book ahead of time for 3 adults and 3 children OR should he approach the front desk at the time and ask them? IF this has happened to anyone...what would the desk tell him?

Book for 2 adults and 3 kids. The when she comes, if you want her to have a key, have him put her on the reservation at that time, if possible.

You can add her to the reservation when she arrives, you will just be charged the extra adult charge for when she stays in the room overnight. It can be done, people do it all the time. When people come to disney, family shows up out of nowhere it seems haha

Yea, "Steve" won't be able to tell the front desk about his MIL because like Tuvalu said, most rooms at Disney resorts can only have a maximum of 5 people total listed as occupying them. Now of course you can let her sleep in there but she won't be able to be added officially.

Officially, resort rooms are 5 (some deluxe) or 4 (most others) max. Suites and villas hold more. If "Steve" books regular resort room, MIL will have to be "unofficial" or "not staying overnight" (wink wink nudge nudge, kwim, say no more). Of course, if villa or suite, MIL can be officially added and nights stayed are added to accommodations costs at checkout.

I did not tell you this but lets say stephanie's family used to book a room for 4 and then just bring an air mattress to sleep 2 others near the foot of the beds (This was in the value rooms such as all star sport)

If someone shows up, then the honest thing to do would be to tell them at the front desk. I guess though they'd need to buy their tickets at the gate or at the concierge desk? Not sure...

I'd have to tell you stephanie is lucky her family wasn't kicked out. Not a chance I would want to take. And that is the best that would happen if she were caught. The worst would be having to pay for another room at the current rate.:in pain:

Look, lots of people ignore the fire department's maximum occupancy mandate and never seem to have a problem. I, for one, wouldn't want to sacrifice my vacation for it. Not to mention, Walt would want you to follow the rules.

I honestly think "Steve" is looking for an excuse to "uninvited" his mother-in-law. Just sayin'.
