What exactly does Disney mainly represent?

This question has been on my mind for a while now, and I feel it's time to share it.

What do you think Walt Disney Company mainly represent?

In other words, if a friend never heard of the WDC then how would you describe it to them? (ie- that theme park company, the movie company, the company that makes Hannah Montanna)

I'm interested in the responses.

On my first day of attractions training, my trainer (Bellhop TJ for you Travel Channel fans) boiled it down this way: "I sell memories."

At the end of a Disney trip, what else are you really left with? Photos, a T-shirt maybe...but none of them mean anything without the memories they represent.

I think the same could probably be said for all the Disney products.

Pre Walt? Well, it has been well documented that Disneyland started because Walt would take his daughters to the park and be bored out of his mind. It got him thinking how he could build a park where kids AND parents could enjoy it. Thus, we saw Disneyland in 1955, built on that idea.

To me I think the movies and parks fit that bill. Snow White was a cartoon but how often have we heard the story of real tears being shed in the premiere of the film in 1937 when the Dwarves are grieving? This was not supposed to be this way but it was. It was one of the biggest box office smashes ever.

I think that was Walt's plan. Ditto for the parks of course.

Disney today has stayed relatively close to Walt's ideas, but they've been tinkered a bit. All in all, the theme of the parks is where anyone of any age can enjoy it regardless of where you are from, who you are and what you believe in.

I say Disney represents an escape. Be it for two hours in a movie, a week in the parks or anywhere in between its a chance to leave the outside world behind and immerse yourself in that time of your life when fairy tales were real and your dreams were all that mattered. There are countless other companies and media that offer this same escape, but Disney is one of the best.

See that's the thing, Disney beats them all. I love Cedar Point and most of us on here still love the Six Flags parks but there isn't a second that goes by that I don't know I am in a theme park. Hey, that's okay, nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that at WDW you feel like you are in another world and the outside world doesn't matter. You WISH the outside world captivated you like that and you felt like that.

Universal is the only thing that comes close to that level as they have done a good job with the space they have. ET is a fascinating ride that is very Disney-esque yet at the end of the day you meet more of your needs at a Disney park than at Universal Studios. Just the Disney touch

Oh I agree, as far as theme parks go Disney is THE best. I left my original comment a little less certain because I was including the whole company and all forms of media. I love Disney, but I also love video games and nothing Disney has put out can beat my favorites from Blizzard, Bioware and other developers. (Maybe Epic Mickey will finally put them in that zone.)
