What Epcot Was Going to Be

I've heard that EPCOT was supposed to be a functional city. What was it supposed to be? Any concept art?

The Project X or the Florida Project, was originally conceived as EPCOT. Later in time after Walt Disney dies plans were change to be fitted more like Disneyland. If you follow the link http://www.waltopia.com/ you will see that most of EPCOT's vision still present on the Walt Disney World.

Tonnes and tonnes of books. EPCOT Center - Creating the New World of Tomorrow 1st or 2nd editions has the most. There`s hundereds on the web too. www.disneypix.com is a good start for general pics. Individual pavilions have many Specialised sites.

I also use lots of construction footage in my EPCOT tribute videos at www.mousebits.com

For a good look at what E.P.C.O.T. and the parks origins from it the book Since the World Began covers it well.

For detailed looks at the proopsed city hunt down the books Project Florida and Master Planning for Walt Disney World - they crop up on ebay now and then. Waltopia covers the former briefly.

Another suggestion would be to pick up the Walt Disney Treasures "Tomorrowland" DVD. It includes the entire original film Walt made to pitch the Florida Project. It includes a good look into what he had planned for EPCOT. It was also the last film Walt made before his death.
