Knott's Berry Farm is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy coasters. Plus you are only 30-45 minutes from LA and there should be plenty of stuff to keep your interest there.

There's Sea World, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and the San Diego Zoo. That would be a nice trip to take. San Diego is a great place to explore!
If you're into rollercoasters, there's Six Flags Magic Mountain.
What time of the year are you going? You could catch an Angels, Lakers, Clippers, or Ducks game if you like sports. Two of the four are located just minutes from the DLR.

I was going to recommend San Diego as well. It's a great town and not far past Legoland.
Hollywood has some blech parts but there's some neat things to see and do there as well!

Well if your into shopping and such Anaheim Garden Walk is opening in May I think. Fashion Island is really cool and they even have a pet shop that i like to look at. Dont forget the beaches.

Catalina Island. I haven't been, but I hear it's fabulous.
San Juan Capistrano has a nice mission to visit and lots of good places for lunch. And it's just a beautiful town.
I've always wanted to go to Venice Beach, but I just never seem to make it there when I'm in the area. The little shops, street performers, artists, roller bladers, etc., are supposed to make the place unique and a bit eccentric. There are a lot of TV and film scenes shot there.
If you go to San Diego, you also can go to Tijuana. There is not much to see there, but it's great if you like to shop. And there's the Agua Caliente Race Track and Casino if you like greyhound racing and/or gambling.
I'm trying to think of more.

Yeah, Universal Hollywood is quite different from Universal Orlando.
