Well, Disneyland's Space Mountain is going down for a two year rehab for the 50th Anniversary of Disneyland. But the track is going to stay the same. It's just going to have a new soundtrack, effects, and other enhancements added (safety things as well). Space Mountain is far from gone for good though.

Yep. They shut it down well ahead of schedule because the problems with the track were so bad that doing an interim fix would have taken almost until the planned closing date after Labor Day. They decided to just close it now and start the rehab for the 50th a bit earlier than expected. The shutdown was so quick that they didn't even notify the cast members who were working the attraction that day!
