What do you want to see in an HM and PotC update if it were to happen?

Hmm... I think that the Jack Sparrow poster is maybe a bit too much of a tribute, even... I like the reference to the JB Blacksmith shop is perfect for the queue...

Anyways, I'm torn on this one... Obviously, though Pirates is on my top ten live action movies ever list, I want Johnny Depp to stay as far from the attraction as possible...

Heres the problem- when Walt built PotC, technology was limited. The pirates arn't completely lifelike... Using today's technology, should Disney update it to make it more lifelike? While it might appeal to a bigger crowd, I think it would lose some of what makes it what it is... It is almost the defination of classic...

But, I could find a few things I'd update (in both rides)... I'd also like to see a longer PotC in WDW... I know theres no room.. but theres no where to make room? I havn't seen the layout of Adventureland, but it seems that there shuold be some place to put the rest of it...

A story about Pirates (OK.. not completely... but there is a lot about it there...)

How about making the rides a little longer.

The HM ride takes place in the huge building adjacent to the actual mansion. What if they put an addition on the building and added some extra track to be tied in to the existing ride. It would be like adding an additional scene. This would also cut down on the time the ride would be down for rehab since the additional track could be constructed first.

Just a thought.

I love POTC film, however, I would rather have all the updates be technical. I could tolerate a minor tribute in the queu, but nothing else.

I've actually done some extensive studies of the WDW Pirates layout to determine if it would be possible to bring WDW "up to snuff", as it were, without seriously altering the structure of the existing building. conclusion? YES, it is possible, although I'd need to see some diagrams of weight load to see if it's even feasible.

remember, this is pure "best possible scenario" conjecture. I'm not even sure if think it SHOULD happen.

my idea is to cleave in half Piate's extensive quere. since the dungeon side is the one most frequently used, we'll assume that they'll use this side for the quere (although it'd frankly be easier if they didn't).

boats are loaded and unloaded at the same area, as in DL (I did this because, honestly, the WDW unload point is so abrupt that I can't honestly do anything with the space except use it for some new show figures). the dungeon quere will have to be raised several feet (aout five but no more than ten.... yes, there is room) at the point at which it passes over the empty boats.

the idea is that the boats do a quick U-turn out of load/unload and proceed up a large up-ramp that now occupies most of the space that Quere 2 used to use. it brings the boats up to the (former) roof of the show building, where the Firefly Lagoon is now situated (so yes, even the exterior will look larger).

the Lagoon does a leisurely loop over the quere, going through a Caribbean jungle, passing a beach with a pirate ship achored in the distance. around the corner, a pirate rests in a small skiff, asleep, while his crew has gone off in search of treasure or whatever. evetually we find some torches lit around the skeletal remains of a pirate, pointed the way towards a cave. inside the cave, the familar "skeeton beach" is found. then comes the skull and crossbones, and the big drop.

so now we're back on "ground level". splashdown is into the middle of the hurricane lagoon (ghost ship). right around the corner, the old "grotto waterfalls" have become the treasure room (the treasure can be partially underwater, as in the film). the 'skeleton caves' now proceed in an orderly fashion up to the (now second) drop that brings us under the railroad tracks and back into the 'normal', unaltered attraction.

since the quere has been raised, the unload and up-ramp areas can be a pirate battle, a climax that WDW soreley lacks. the "unload" side would have to be converted to an exit quere that leads to a gift shop.

the problem with this idea is primarily that peak loading times would be cleaved by 50%, which is frankly unacceptable. probably even more than 50% due to the "load and unload" nature of the new layout.

also, I don't think it's feasible to expect Disney to raise the building, nor do I think the current show building is equipped to carry the load of an entire second building stacked on top of it.

it's a nice thought. I did this purely as speculation, so I don't even consider any possibly of actualization.

Uh no. The PotC movie was nothing really like the attraction like the Haunted Mansion movie was. I think putting the new movie characters into the attraction would ruin everything. After all would you like to see Eddie Murhpy flying around Madam Leota's room on a chair? No.

If anything, people who have never visited the HM but saw the movie will be looking for similar things in the HM when they go. Disney will not have to change a thing because all of the elements of the movie are already in the HM.

POTC however is not. I think maybe some environmental effects would enhance the attraction more. Maybe a mist when it is raining and wind and mist in your face as you decend the drop. Also a musty scent in the cave and maybe the smell of the city burning would be good too. (Although I get sick when I smell the Burning of Rome scene in SE)

they dont need to be changed there perfect just the way they are and changing those rides would be like distroing the disney walt dreamt of. now if they would like to hire johnny depp to ask how many in the pirates that would be the best idea of all time.

In Pirates, I would also like to see the Black Pearl as the ship in the beginning. A view of the blacksmith shop where Will Turner works would also be cool.

In the Mansion, I agree that all updates need to be technical. But, I think the graveyard needs to be expanded. Besides this, everything needs to be kept the same.

Yup. One on the left and one on the right. They both travel through what looks like an old fort. The right side travels through a spooky dungeon and the left side travels through the part where soldiers at the fort might hangout.

Left que

Not only does it have a left que , isn't the left que much shorter? If that is the case could the right que area be reclaimed for retrofitting into part of the ride, (maybe not as it is not outside the berm). Then the left que could be backed up into the entrance area which is spacious. Think about how much que line is twisted around in the limited area of Jungle Cruise.

Personally, my opinion is Never, ever touch the original. Do what you want to the WDW version, I'd like to see it removed and replaced with a Western River Expedition. But since the WDW isn't that great to begin with, I would take the characters from the movie, and create a new storyline based on those characters. Or use some various segments from the movie. The only problem I see would be tying them together in a story. Sure, have the treasure first, Jack steering the ship in the storm second, a battle with the fort third, etc. But how to tie them all together?

actually, although they don't use it all, the left quere is much longer than the right quere. it also has all kinds of weird stuff in it, like a fountain (that probably usred to run), a pretty convincing illusion of a courtyard, armouries and gunpowder storage rooms.

best time to see it is during peak season. I think I have some photos around here, too.

it's an interestingly designed quere... both sides work without switchbacks, sometimes opening into very spacious areas. an obvious precursior to Indy's quere at DL.

Although it would be different to add characters from the movies to the rides, I wouldn't mind seeing characters like Keira, Orlando, or Johnny. I think it would be funny, plus I think more people would go to see them. The movie was such a big hit, why not?

Adding a few AAs won't bump the guests. They have to see it visibly outside, or it must have a large rehab in order to be listed on the maps. I say, have post-show exhibits at most.

Walt didn't want all the parks to be carbon copies. (Eisner would differ, but I digress.) You could change POTC in WDW, but not DL. DON'T change HM to fit the movie. The movie was terrible. I would change and opdate POTC, though.
