What do you want to see in an HM and PotC update if it were to happen?

Okay, let's suppose that Disney has decided to give The Haunted Mansion an update, which could include some things to tie into the movie. I'd like to see a new ballroom scene which would be like the one in the movie, and in the place you first walk into with the fireplace, before you go into the stretching room, there's a portrait of someone that changes to a skeleton, that i'd replace with a portrait of Master Gracey. In the attic scene, they could make it like the movie, and the graveyard scenes could get some updatings too. What would you like to see?

Okay, now for Pirates of the Caribbean. You know, before the drop, there's that skeleton with the swords behind him saying there be rough waters ahead, they could give him a facelift to look like the one on the logo. The pirate ship right after the drop should be modified into the Black Pearl with Captain Barbosa and his crew on it, and across the water could be townspeople running and this could be the place where they could add Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom. It'd be funny to see Keira Knightley though added to the scene with the redhead. There's just a ton of possibilities. What would you like to see?

I say, to experience the Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion movies, visit Hong Kong's new FILM-style attractions. Or pop in the DVD.

To experience the original Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion, visit Walt Disney World and Disneyland. I would be extremely saddened to see either altered by the films despite how fun it is to Imagineer.

I couldn't really see Disney making such alterations and to be honest I wouldn't really want to see such alterations being made.
Remember the films are based on the rides not the other way round, and thats how it should stay.
The rides would lose their 'classic' status if they were adapted to suit the films.

I do very much agree with you grizzlyhall, it'd be cool if Hong Kong got a Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean based on the movies. That would be a really cool thing.

And yet I do somewhat agree with the both of you, I don't see why not adding just a few things here and there that wouldn't take out it's "classic" title. I don't see how any changes would effect its status. I would take anything to spruce up either ride, except of course Jennifer Tilly as Leota:lookaroun .

Maybe Pirates of the Caribbean as a scene in the Great Movie Ride?

I could envision a POTC stage show, for example. The HM also has the "Behind the Scenes" tour. I really don't think it will get farther than that.

You see, these are probably the two most beloved Disney attractions with fanbase. Even if the slightest hint of the film were added as a permanent feature, people would go nuts. Not the movie fans, per se.

Heck, I LOVE the film. It's the only live action Disney film I own since Pete's Dragon (1977!). But even adding an AA just adds this sense of "we're in the movie, not the ride."

I see what you mean, but the movie can be seen any day. The ride can only be experienced once every few years by most guests around the US.

Changes in PotC and HM

In Pirates, I would like to see an update of the AA figures. If you ever went on DL's version, compare the two Auctioneer figures. WDW still has the 70's technology, while DL has a brand new (and extremely life-like) figure. I would like to see that added to WDW's version as well. Also, maybe the sword battle from DLP's version.

In HM, I say only make technological improvements... a new sound system, making use of the new fiber obtic special effects, etc.

Pirates: DEFINATELY change the AAs and update them. I'd like to have a Blue Bayou resturaunt where the boats go through. Plus, in the loading area, you can easily tell thatyou are in a building, so make it look like the night sky is above you. Plus, add the X Antonincio voice for the Skull and Cross bones because the currrent voice is terrible. Not to mention, add the going up the water fall scene at the end.

HM: Not too much, but fix the broken effects and maybe add a few new and more updated AAs here and there.

I have an idea, why not have tributes to the movies in the ride? Just small ones. Maybe in the qeue for POTC, have an advertisement for the JB Blacksmith shop and a wanted poster for Captain Jack Sparrow. And stuff like that.

Well, I had meant MOVIE stuff, but you are definitely right PeterAlt. The AAs in the ride are almost so un-lifelike, while on the other hand DL has a way better version of AAs. Also, DL's is longer. I say if we don't get any movie stuff, let's fix up the AAs, give some scenes some touch-ups, maybe if possible make it longer.

For the Haunted Mansion, I think we need new Doom Buggies. I mean, how old are the ones we have? Are they original? I think new ones would be nice, as well as a new ride system, cause you can always here creaking and cranking of the ride as you're moving, so a smoother ride system would be nice as well. And of course new sound system, new special effects, a remastered soundtrack.....that would be nice.

If they DID actually add movie stuff, I also forgot to mention that they should shed some light on the hanging head in the stretching room, maybe having someone who can sound like the great Paul Frees give a small backstory on it?

as for the haunted mansion "changes", anything that happens needs to be "technical" ie, improve sound, if that kind of gives it the nostalga old feel unless it completely just breaks down. if not leave as is.

add a few new ghosts, they had diagrams from the mid 80's of possible new ghosts ie, woman trapped in a mirror fading in and out. put something in the spider area, either add more spiders that drops slowly down or a body in the empty web.

pirates: PIRATES CHASING THE WOMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

other than those, which will never happen, nothing. no movie updates. they are not Pirates of the Carribean based off of the movie" it's the other way around. It would be an insult to Walt (not that making CoP seasonal isn't already) but changing two of the greatest rides he influenced would be.

doombuggies are fine. don't need any other design.

DL added a spanish track to the haunted mansion as well as an english track about keeping arms and legs in the doombuggy. they wanted Cory Burton no relation to Tim) to do the voice. he did not (did the voice for HMH). he considered that destruction to a wonderful masterpeice. i had once posted a clip from an interview in whioch Burton said that HM was his reasoning to become a voice actor. that everything about the ride was pure genius and the most wonderful piece of "art" ever. Tim Burton also enjoys the ride from what i've read. with fans as big as these two, it would be VERY VERY VERY foolish to change the ride except for "technical updates"

and besides. why change something that has worked for 35 years?

Why attempt to change something that's already perfect? Sure, some of the AAs could possibly be updated, but I don't want to see anything from either the HM or PotC movie in the attractions. If it isn't broke don't fix it!

I think reasonable, subtle details that pay tribute to the film versions are perfectly acceptable. I particularly like the idea of a Jack Sparrow wanted poster outside Pirates. that's both a funny joke and a non-intrusive enhancement.

HM at WDW needs some basic fine tuning. lighting level adjustments, a new sound system, and refurbished effects.

I could come up with a list of a half dozen or so subtle enhancements that would greatly improve the Mansion expirence without actually intruding on the designer's original visions...

the Animatronics at WDW have been fine tuned and refurbished, BTW, and look beautiful. the Ghost Band, in particular, is very lively and fluid.

LOL I actually would NOT object to a Jack Sparrow figure in Pirates. While I wouldn't like him to replace another pirate, I think it would be highly amusing to see him standing (tottering) in either the Jail or the Chase scene.

Anyways, I'm torn on this one... Obviously, though Pirates is on my top ten live action movies ever list, I want Johnny Depp to stay as far from the attraction as possible...

Heres the problem- when Walt built PotC, technology was limited. The pirates arn't completely lifelike... Using today's technology, should Disney update it to make it more lifelike? While it might appeal to a bigger crowd, I think it would lose some of what makes it what it is... It is almost the defination of classic...

But, I could find a few things I'd update (in both rides)... I'd also like to see a longer PotC in WDW... I know theres no room.. but theres no where to make room? I havn't seen the layout of Adventureland, but it seems that there shuold be someplace to put the rest of it...

A story about Pirates (OK.. not completely... but there is a lot about it there...)
